Synopsis (via Hallmark)

A book editor must work with a former rival to help a potential writer find her way. He reminds all of them about the Christmas spirit and the value of the community.

Thoughts

Hannah loves to read, and she is a book editor with a red pen. She takes a short break to go to the Christmas tree lighting and see a friend named Ryan. They have a hate/hate relationship. He is back in town to manage his dead parent’s estate and also to consult at Hannah’s publishing firm.

Guardian angels happen! Anthony is a guardian angel and can freeze time. He takes a job as a receptionist at Hannah’s publishing firm. He gives Hannah a Christmas wish.

Ryan takes in a tenant for the holidays named Tina and moves into the guest house of his parent’s house. Hannah is trying to distract herself by reading a Christmas romance novel. The author of the book is Tina, who is staying in town and is between book deals. Hannah wants to sign her for a book deal and asks Ryan to get her access. Tina tells Hannah and Ryn that she is retired and will never write again.

Hannah and Ryan inexplicably do a bunch of Christmas things together, even though they despise one another. To get Tina into the Christmas spirit (and also to get her to sign a book deal.), they invite her to join them caroling. Then bake cookies together. Tina starts to open up; she recently lost her husband and is in Angel Falls to spend time away from painful memories.

Hannah recaps everything to her receptionist (who is her guardian angel.) He dispenses wisdom in vague platitude and cliches. Ryan also talks to Anthony and gets the same advice.

To lift Tina’s spirit, Ryan and Hannah bring a Christmas tree to Tina, and they all decorate it together. Tina even brings out an angel tree topper that used to belong to her husband. She puts it on the tree and is opening-up. Bringing Tina out of her shell is bringing Ryan and Hannah closer together.

Ryan gets an offer on his house and for a job back in New York. Ryan appeals to Anthony with the news and seems bummed about it. Anthony tells him to let his guard down, which he does with Hannah. They let past grievances go and gain a better understanding of one another. Tina is inspired by their budding relationship and loves their flirting. She may even write again.

Hannah is passionate about not only Ryan, but she is also passionate about her job. She convinces her parents to expand their fiction line. Ryan and Hannah ride in Santa’s sleigh and then run to the bus station to stop Tina from leaving. Tina doesn’t know where she belongs. It is hard to be home for her but even harder to be in her husband’s hometown. They convince her to stay.

Ryan is still contemplating leaving town and talks about it to Hannah’s mother. Hannah overhears half of the conversation and takes it out of context. She makes an argument with half the details. Ryan is insulted and runs off, leaving town before Christmas. Before he goes, he stops by Tina’s house (but really his home.) and gives Tina a letter to give to Hannah. Tina brings the message to Hannah and tells her that she will write for the publishing company.

Hannah and Ryan find each other in the town square. Hannah apologizes for misunderstanding, and Ryan apologizes for not telling her sooner. They kiss, and time stops as the angels talk about their angel work. (Which seems a lot like therapy.) The angels fade away, leaving the humans to have a merry Christmas.

Anthony is no Clarance. That is all I have to say.
