Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Inspired by true events. April (Shellie Sterling) finds herself fighting for her life after attending a party with her best friend, Brittney (Kate Edmonds). After drinking too much, April stumbles into a suspicious ride share to take her home but quickly realizes the driver has other plans in mind: stealing her organs to sell them on the black market. Thoughts
A woman (We later learn it is April) is dragged into a warehouse kicking and screaming and is locked in a room by a nasty-looking dude with a beard.
Cut to a ballet rehearsal where the dance instructor/April’s Mom is hard on her dancers and very busy. April and her BFF’s Taylor and Brittney, are heading to college and going to the last party of the summer. The girls have turned on their friend Natalie who slept with April’s boyfriend, Sam.
At the party, Natalie and April argue in the bathroom. Natalie begs for forgiveness for what she did, but April doesn’t forgive her. April cuts all her friends off for talking to Sam. (Who isn’t even hot enough for all this drama.) Then she gets drunk because she is tired of being a “good girl.” April gets too drunk and is taken to a rideshare by Brittney. (Who will not be winning friend of the year.) Something is sketchy about the rideshare driver, but Brittney throws April in the car without her phone. When April comes to, she tries to ask for help but is incapacitated.
Meanwhile, April’s mom (Tracey) asks out a guy named Kent while they are at rehearsal together. The flirting gets lost in translation, and Kent has to have things spelled out for him. They agree to get Italian for dinner. (Dating while being older is tough!)
When the rideshare stops, the crepy driver is joined by another creepy guy with a hat. April tries to escape but is dragged kicking and screaming into a warehouse freezer. (Wow, it is terrifying.) April defends herself with a saucepan. To her horror Natalie (her enemy) is also thrown into the freezer. So not only is she stuck in a freezer. April is stuck with someone who betrayed her!
The girls argue but then decide to work together to get out of the freezer. April patches Natalie’s wounds and promises to get them out of this. Natalie thinks Brittney drugged them and was working with the men from the rideshare, OR she is dead. April won’t hear it tells Natalie that all her friends aren’t backstabbers. The cold eventually brings them together, and they make amends.
Taylor and Sam go to April’s house to see if she made it home okay. Tracey searches the house and frantically looks for her daughter. Sam tracks April down with a tracker app he installed on her phone. (Because he is a creep) and sees she is at a family farm. (YIKES!) So the rideshare guys must be brothers.
Tracey, Taylor, Sam search through some cornfields with flashlights. Sam continues to be a jerk the whole time. Not sure why April ever dated him. They come upon a farmhouse and look around.
A female doctor arrives in the freezer to inspect April and Natalie. The women are terrified and scream for help. When left alone, April scoots on the floor and tries to cut off her restraints. It works, and she helps Natalie up. They are both almost hypothermic and wrap themselves in insulation.
Sam gets lost in the corn maze and runs into Brittney, who claims to have run into car trouble. She tries to get Sam to leave, but her brother Mike (the Uber driver) kills Sam with a shovel while Brittney screams for him to stop. They dispose of the body and plan to leave town the next day.
The freezer girls are almost popsicles at this point. They are low on energy and rely on one another for warmth. They whisper to one another like Rose and Jack at the end of Titanic. (Thank goodness I had those subtitles on!) While April is talking about Key West or Mexico, Natalie dies, causing April to go into an incomprehensible monologue.
Brittney and Mike bring Sam’s body to the doctor to see if she can “use” it. The doctor is harvesting organs. They are all doing this for money. (Seriously, how much money could they be making?)
The freezer girls are not dead; apparently, they are just literally frozen. They are taken to the operating room, which is warmer and prepped for surgery.
Tracey grabs Brittney and demands to know where her daughter is. She storms into the freezer with a crowbar, and Mike almost locks her in. Brittney turns on her brother and knocks him out. Natalie, Brittney, and Tracey drag him into the freezer and lock him inside. She tells them to close her inside with her brother.
April is almost operated on, but Tracey arrives just in time with her dukes up. Aprils unties herself from the gurnee and holds a knife to the doctor’s neck. They don’t want to kill her because they want the doctor to pay. When the doctor is asked why she picked Natalie and April, the doctor screams “Nobody cares about girls like her!!!!” (Implying nobody cares about BLACK girls. #BlacklivesMatter)
April and Natalie become advocates against organ trafficking. Women of color are targeted the most for this crime.
