Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Two college freshmen, Hannah and Jodie, think they’ve secured the perfect dorm on campus but soon discover that the previous resident, Amy, died under mysterious circumstances. When Hannah begins having an affair with the charming Professor Hampton, she learns that he was connected to Amy and after finding Amy’s hidden journal, Hannah believes Amy was murdered. Now Hannah must uncover the identity of Amy’s killer before the killer strikes again. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Homecoming week continues on LMN, and I’m pretty much over it at this point.

A girl in pigtails walks around campus while looking over her shoulder a lot. She makes it to her dorm and thinks she is safe. The girl writes about someone named Hampton in her journal and hides the journal in her closet before being pushed out of a window.

Investigative Journalist Nancy drops off her daughter, Hannah, at college. Hannah is obsessed with a college professor named HAMPTON. She also already knows her roommate, her BFF, Jodie. Their room is the room of the murdered girl. It looks out on the practice fields and is very nice for a college dorm.

Daisy welcomes the freshman girl to campus and seems to know all about campus and Hannah’s mom’s writing. The dean announces the mental health mixer because they think the girl killed herself from the movie’s beginning.

Professor Andrew Hampton welcomes the new students to the journalism class. He is British and ginger, so he is basically Prince Harry, in my opinion. He also writes on a typewriter and encourages his students to do the same, OR WRITE BY HAND. Professor gives them an odd writing prompt. “I will do anything for success, except for X.” Hannah talks to Professor Hampton after class and asks for him not to give her special treatment because of who her mom is.

At the suicide mixer, everyone gets a text message of the girl, Amy, being pushed out of the window. Jodie and Hannah obviously want to switch rooms immediately; it is a crime scene. For some reason, it is Daisy’s decision, and she tells the girls that no rooms are available.

Hannah wins the TA position with her writing, and Professor Hampton invites her over to his place. He also gives Hannah his keys.

At the Professor’s home, Hannah is surprised to learn she is being wined and dined. By the fire, Hannah and Professor Hampton giggle and talk about the multiple sides of each other. Hannah feels connected with her Professor instantly. They spend the rest of the night editing in red pen. (Can Hannah work for this blog? I could use an editor!) Then they make out while someone records them from the window.

Hannah finds Amy’s journal, and instead of turning it over to the police, she keeps it and reads one page at a time. She talks to Professor Hampton about Amy/the journal, and he swears he only hooked up with Hannah. There is also some talk about plagiarism, which is pretty bad in journalism school.

Jodie is on a co-ed soccer team and practices at night as Hannah studies the journal in her room. Jodie mentions the journal to Daisy, and Daisy is insistent on telling the dean about what they found. Right after, Jodie packs up the practice equipment. She never finishes the task because someone chloroforms Jodie AND KILLS HER?

While alone in Professor Hampton’s home, Hannah searches for a charger and gets into things she shouldn’t. She leaves suddenly.

The police want to talk to Hannah because someone killed her roommate. Nancy is also there and uses the police questioning as an investigative report info-gathering session. Nancy is pissed that Hannah withheld information from her and the police. When Nancy asks if Hannah and Andrew Hampton were “intimate.” Hannah lies, but they work together to solve the case.

Nancy walks around the campus in her weird blazer/coat thing. She questions Daisy, who suggests that it is strange Professor Andrew is MIA. Then Hannah gets a video sent to her phone of her hooking up with the Professor with the caption “R U the NEXT AMY?!” Hannah comes clean to her mom about the sex with the Professor and having a key to his place. Nancy couldn’t care less and wants to do more snooping. She is dedicated to her job. They key into the Professor’s house and find him murdered. (Well, there is a suicide note.)

Hannah has a bad dream about being pushed out the window. Then she breaks into Rachel’s room, an old classmate of Amy. Rachel has evidence on her computer, and someone in her car run Hannah and her mother off the road before going to the police.

Daisy is the one behind everything, of course. She ties Hannah up and forces her to watch while she destroys the evidence that would eventually incriminate her. Daisy pulls out a knife and admits she did it all for… no reason, really.

Nancy saves her daughter (After finding Jodie in a trunk.), and they rush out of the house together. Daisy follows them with a knife. Vases are thrown until the police arrive and arrest Daisy. They take her into custody while Hannah and Nacy watch on with ketchup on their faces. Rachel shows up and has been working the case the whole time. She scooped EVERYONE. Rachel should be the investigative journalist!
