Synopsis (via Lifetime)

The riveting film is based on the true story of a powerful and respected military officer who committed numerous brutal crimes and was eventually brought down by a tenacious small town police detective.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

This is a part of the Throwback Series! On Thursdays, I will be releasing an OG Lifetime Movie available to watch on Lifetime Movie Club!

Gary Cole man plays Colonel Russell Williams, a man who appears to be living the American dream, whoops Canadian Dream. He has a beautiful wife, home, and face. He is well respected at work to the point that people clap when he walks into rooms and give him cake!

Mary, his wife, is a big-time fundraiser who boosts Russell’s image. They take some photos for the press and announced that Russell is the commander for the local airforce base. Russell doesn’t want to move back on base in favor of his sleepy little town, where no one locks their doors.

Detectives show up because this is a 2012 Lifetime movie where Law and Order was all the rage. We meet hometown girl turned city slicker Jennifer, who is back to help solve a string of robberies in town. (The robber also steals teen undies, which is creepy.) She is partnered with a floppy Detective named Nick.

A single woman comes home to find her panty drawer and sex toys have been stolen. She calls her friend Joe instead of the police and then runs to a neighbor’s house. On her computer is a note in really large font:

“GO AHEAD AN CALL THE POLICE IF YOU WANT TO SHOW THEM YOUR REALLY BIG DILDOS” (WHAT?!?!?!?!)

Russell gets more brazen and targets co-workers from the military base. He breaks into one woman’s house and strips naked while she showers, rubbing her bra and panties on his body. She calls the police, and we see that the burglar is Russell.

Detectives put out a warning to the neighborhood, but one woman doesn’t get the message. She is attacked in the middle of the night while her baby sleeps in the crib. Russell ties her up and blindfolds the woman; then, he films himself with her. It is a disturbing scene, and I’m not sure Lifetime would currently depict such a detailed attack. (It might have been about 5 mins.) The woman’s name is Linda, and she recalls everything to the police and gives them valuable insights into the perp.

Russell keeps detailed notes on all his victims and has files on each victim’s down to their home blueprint/floorplans. When Detectives question him, he implicates another neighbor to get them off his trail. The neighbor agrees to be in a lineup, and a victim identifies him.

Russell returns to the scene of one of his crimes and attacks his co-worker. He ties her up, sexually assaults her, and leaves her for dead. The detectives are now looking for a murderer. The neighbor has an alibi, and detectives think it could be someone from the military base. (They are right!)

The base starts doing random car searches, and Russell double cleans his car. He heads home and learns that his pre-teen neighbor is home alone. The parents come home early, and Russell is almost caught; he plays it off like he is looking for a missing cat.

Detective Jennifer starts looking into Russell and decares him a suspect, much to her chief’s disapproval. They bring Russell in for question under the guise of using his expertise to help them find the killer. They get him with circumstantial evidence such as tire tracks and join with the military to get their guy. A pair of boots give them enough evidence to search his property. There they find bins of lingerie, tools, and videos/photos.

Russell maintains his innocence until he doesn’t and makes a plea deal. He takes them to a body he hid in the woods, and it is all too much. He is arrested, and his wife files for divorce, obviously. He is currently serving life in prison. Bye, Bitch!
