Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Olivia is Connecticut’s resident expert on evergreens who, just days before the holiday, agrees to help Jack, a fourth generation Christmas tree farmer in Avon. A mysterious illness has befallen their firs, causing them to die out and threatening his family’s 100-year business. As Olivia tries to get to the root of the problem and extends her stay in town, she and Jack spend more time together and feelings begin to develop. Starring Danica McKellarBenjamin Ayres and Jason Hervey.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with pre-teen Olivia climbing a tree, much to the annoyance of her mother.

Flash to grown-up Olivia, who is still obsessed with trees. She is a Christmas Tree Whisperer and going through a called-off engagement.

Jack, a local Christmas Tree farm owner, has a bad batch of trees and has to call in the Christmas Tree Expert, Olivia. On the day of her canceled wedding, Olivia makes the trip to Jack’s Christmas Tree Farm. The two literally run into one another downtown and get off on the wrong foot. (Olivia’s car needs repairs, and she will have to stay in town.)

Olivia stays at a local BNB that, of course, has lots of Christmas activities and decorations. The hot cocoa is world-famous! Non- Synched Carolers check! There is also spiked cider. I need to find this town.

Everyone is very thankful that Olivia is in town, so much show that she stays for a cocktail-making contest… and wins! Olivia and Jack then look at sentimental Christmas ornaments and Olivia shares about her called-off wedding. She admits to having trouble speaking her mind.

There is one guy who isn’t thankful for Olivia, Dwayne. (Who owns the rival Christmas Tree Farm.) Olivia and Jack dig up a tree for scientific research and are caught by a young police officer who MAKES A SEX JOKE? (Hallmark! You went there.) Olivia realizes that the trees might have a virus.

Since viruses aren’t sexy or romantic, Olivia and Jack back cookies and build gingerbread houses.

The stakes rise incrementally when the mayor asks them to figure it out before the Christmas Eve Christmas Tree Lighting. Olivia racks her brain because she can’t figure out what is wrong. She realizes from a pack of cough drops that the trees need NUTRIENTS!

Olivia and Jack’s family all sit around and watch the Christmas Tree absorb the nutrients. Since that would make the movie boring, Jack and Olivia go shopping for White Elephant gifts. They exchange gifts and year a Yule-Log. Olivia event gets an ornament on the Christmas tree. It is all the Christmas traditions that Olivia missed as a child.

The town tree goes up without a hitch, thanks to Olivia’s secret formula. Jack invites her to stay for the Christmas Tree Lighting. Olivia is conflicted and can’t speak her mind. Jack and Olivia kiss, and he asks her to stay and take a risk on him. Olivia calls her mother and tells her that she has experienced REAL Christmas and won’t be home till Christmas morning. #SorryNotSorry

The Christmas tree turns brown, and Dwyane is ready to replace it with one of his Christmas Tree Lot trees. Olivia and Jack get into an argument which causes them to reevaluate their relationship.

Olivia is encouraged to speak up to her parents, and she realizes that she needs to speak up in every situation, including her relationship with Jack.

Olivia overhears some of Dwyane’s cronies bragging about the new trees, and she takes a selfie with them to see the chemicals on their truck. Dwyane and his boys were spraying weed killer on the trees, which is so rude! Dwyane is arrested by the hot cop. (Damn, this town doesn’t mess around.)

The town decorates the tree, and then it is time for the lighting. Olivia’s parents join her and meet Jack.

Olivia has one last thing to speak up about. Her feelings for Jack. They makeout as the tree lights up. Yay!
