Mira Varma (Sharma) takes pride in her family’s business of making fruitcakes, despite the decline in its popularity of once being America’s most-gifted holiday confection. When Mira’s parents decide to hire Brady Phillips (Johnstone) and his high-powered marketing company to boost sales for the holidays, Mira must fight to hold on to the heart of the company she loves so much. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Mira Varma decorates the family Christmas tree with her family. She runs the family Fruitcake business. To help jolt the stagnant business, Mira’s parents hire a marking firm to help publicize their fruitcake. (Which has a bad reputation, obviously)
Brady Philips is assigned to the job, and he starts off markering a limited edition fruit cake with special wrapping. Mira is not open to change and thinks he is losing the heart of the business. She gives Brady a tour and shares why tradition is so important. Then she is appointed his personal point of contact for the project.
Mira’s brother, Jay, doesn’t want to run the business and wants to teach gym. Brady’s assistant, Finn, encourages him to follow his dreams. They have major flirtatious vibes. They set up a lunch date, and then later her waits outside with an umbrella to take Finn to dinner. Awww.
“Christmas is the ultimate ad campaign” is something Brady says over and over. Mira has a Christmas Crush and invites him to help her make fruitcakes and hot glue Christmas stockings. Mira opens up about being the only Indian immigrant family in her town and explains how her mother adopted Christmas traditions to help them fit in more. This is one of the reasons why Mira loves Christmas.
Mira decides to trust Brady with the marketing of her company. (Her parents give her the business because they want to ride in an RV.)
Brady and Finn join the family for Christmas sweater caroling. Jay and Finn officially start dating. Another family friend, Tim, joins them, and Brady gets the wrong idea. He takes another account and leaves Finn in charge of Varma fruitcakes. Mira is shocked at the sudden shift.
Finn talks about all things influencer and social media. He gets swag bags to local influencers and declares it #NationalFruitCakeDay Mira hates the campaign because it is a gimmick and doesn’t help change the public perception of fruitcake.
Things turn around after Mira puts Brady’s ideas into action. Finn is promoted for the successful campaign, and Brady delivers the news in person. Finn thanks him for the opportunity and tells him to go after Mira because she is not in a relationship with Tim.
Mira and Brady kiss, and he is suddenly spending Christmas morning with the family. That developed quickly.
Side Note
Minority Report: Varma family, Phillips Family.
I feel like the B-Romances had more chemistry than the leading love interests.
