Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Kristen and Justin are thrilled when their daughter, Olivia, returns home after being missing for six years. Olivia was kidnapped along with five other girls around the same age, but only Olivia has been discovered, and she claims she wasn’t with the other girls, nor does she know how to find them. As Kristen goes overboard trying to help Olivia readjust to normal life, Justin can’t help but feel uneasy. Something is off about this girl, especially as she tells contradictory stories about her time with her captor and can’t seem to recall small details about her life pre-abduction. Soon, Kristen begins to realize Justin’s suspicions were right all along: this girl is not Olivia, but a sixth previously unknown captive named Natalie. Hoping to finally find Olivia, Kristin teams up with Natalie to track down her daughter. Emily Alatalo, Steve Belford, Natalie Jane star. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

A young girl crawls out of a window and runs into the snowy woods to freedom. She was being held captive with some other girls by human traffickers in the middle of nowhere.

Kristen and Anne are publishers who bought the rights to another girl’s story from the perspective of her mother called “A Daughter Lost & Found.” Before the book goes to the presses, Kristen wants to verify some details and finds some discrepancies.

A call from detectives comes in, and Kristen learns that HER missing daughter, Olivia, has returned after six years in captivity. Kristen and her estranged husband Justin take their daughter home, and it is awkward. Olivia is understandably withdrawn and quiet. (She mistakenly goes to the wrong room, which makes me think she isn’t Olivia, after all.)

Kristen and Olivia sit down to play pattycake and talk the following day. Kristen had Olivia’s things packed up and put in the basement but reassures her daughter that she wasn’t trying to forget her.

Olivia’s parents try to recreate an everyday life for their daughter, but everything is traumatizing for Olivia. When Justin grabs Olivia’s arm to stop her from eating shrimp, which she is allergic to but has forgotten, she freaks out and locks herself in her room. Justin apologizes for his outburst.

Olivia starts to open up about the horrors that happened to her while in captivity. Justin seems to push her harder than Kristen to share details, but she withholds anything to help find the other girls. Olivia has emotional outbursts randomly and is placated with shopping trips.

Beth, Olivia’s former BFF, shows up with a card from the gymnastics team. Beth tells Olivia that she looks different and thinks she is acting strange. Olivia suddenly turns on Beth and freaks her out. Beth tells Justin that Olivia is not who she says she is as she runs out of the house.

Justin shares Beth’s concerns with Kristen and suspects that Olivia isn’t his daughter. Kristen can’t see it or doesn’t want to see it.

Olivia and Justin get into another argument, and he tells her about what Beth told him. Olivia storms off and fights with Beth off a bridge. Beth calls the police, who report the incident to Justin.

Kristen decides to test Olivia and talks about memories at the park where Olivia was kidnapped. Olivia doesn’t pass, and Kristen catches her in lies. She demands to know where her real daughter is.

Olivia reveals her real name is Natalie. She is not one of the missing girls in the papers, and she says her parents wouldn’t be looking for her. Her father’s name is John, and Kristen promises to help Natalie find him. Natalie takes Kristen to her home; John is the abductor.

Kristen tries to call 911, but there is no cell service. John’s truck is not in the driveway, so Natalie leads Kristen into the house/barn. There are terrified-looking girls, but no Olivia.

John’s truck pulls up, and Kristen finds Olivia locked in another shed. Natalie frees her daughter, and they embrace while Natakue watches sadly. Jealous, she screams for her father. But, Natalie confronts the abductor and tells him she has called the police.

John doesn’t believe her and calls her bluff, but you don’t mess with a mother scorned. The real Olivia takes him out with a shovel, and then Natalie smashes him in the face with a shovel as well.

Kristen takes the girls to safety and calls the police. John is taken into custody and arrested.

One year later, Kristen is raising Olivia and Natalie with Justin.
