When entertainment writer Alli Blakeman (Deveaux) is assigned a story covering the anniversary of a classic Christmas movie in the small town where it was filmed, she agrees on the condition that it could lead to a big promotion. When she meets a local theater owner, Brad (Seeley), they unravel the mysterious origins of the movie’s signature song and Alli learns that movie magic isn’t always just on screen. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins in an old movie film booth. The movie theater is showing an old picture featuring Robin Dunn and a lady with a pig speaking in Mid-Atlantic accents.
Cut to Alli Blakeman, a reporter assigned to talk with star Walter Andrews for the 65th Anniversary of the movie/song “Christmas With You.” She heads to the small town where the movie was filmed. Allie plans to get an interview after Walter and learn more about the movies’ history.
Alli meets the movie theater owner, Drew Seeley AKA Brad; he shows her around and tells her about movie magic. He is into the classics and old Hollywood nostalgia.
Most of the movie is spent searching the town for Christmas memorabilia together. Nothing is less interesting than watching a reporter interview a bunch of people in the town about a fictional movie/song.
The star of the movie, Margaret, talks to Alli and shares her history with Walter.
Alli reunites Margaret and Walter to show she is truly invested in the town. Drew Seeley realizes that Alli has the town’s best interest at heart when she throws a big holiday event airing the movie in the historic theatre. He thanks her for restoring his faith in Christmas or whatever.
Then, they break out into a full song and dance number, finally putting Drew Seeley to use. Honestly, the whole movie should have been the last 5 mins.
