Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Years after their personal and professional breakup, the singing duo of Georgia (McEntire) and Joe Winter (Schneider) agree to reunite after their daughter, Belle (King), asks them to participate in a Christmas Charity concert, only to find themselves getting back in tune on stage and off. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie delivers exactly what you want from the get-go, Reba singing. She plays Georgia Winter, a famous musician. (Who always makes time for her fans, and NOT Jimmy Fallon.)

Georgia Winter was once part of a country music duo with her ex-husband, Joe. (Who now plays weddings.) Georgia considers releasing a Christmas album, and video calls her daughter Bella, who has recently gone through a breakup. Joe also facetimes at the same time, and the parents argue while Bella plays the middle man.

Bella works in PR and has an assistant named Darnesa. She is planning a military Snowball for a high school classmate/love interest Troy. He asks her to reunite Reba and Joe to perform at the event, so Bella heads home to her mother’s ranch.

Reba shoots the idea down until she hears that it is for the troops, on the condition that Joe agrees. Since he works as a wedding singer/bar manager, he was yes.

Reba and Joe reunite in the studio. They drop not so subtle Reba references:

“Fancy Meeting You Here, Georgia! “Fancy Meeting You Here, Joe!”

They start bickering immediately. Bella and Troy arrive to talk about the setlist, but Reba wants to know more about why they aren’t dating one another.

However, the power of suggestion is real because Bella and Troy start talking about her childhood and life in the spotlight. Belle even has a Christmas song named after her “Christmas Belle.”

Belle arranges for publicity photos where her parents are dressed up like sexy Santa and Mrs. Clause. They cuddle up for the photos, and Troy asks how Joe and Reba broke up. They technically aren’t divorced; they are separated. The nail that broke the camel’s back or whatever, what Joe not thanking Reba in his Grammy acceptance speech.

Choreography rehearsal happens, and when Reba and Joe cut it short, Troy and Belle flirt while dancing. Reba catches them and encourages the relationship.

Rehearsal montage. Then Joe and Reba work on a new Christmas song that Joe promised in a press interview.

Reba and Joe decide to practice the act at his bar for an impromptu performance of the new song, “Must Have Been the Mistletoe.” It goes well, and the former lovers celebrate with a beer.

With the stress of performance jitters out of the way, Reba and Joe go to a toy store and play with a magic 8 ball and then go Christmas Tree shopping together. They realize they have missed one another.

Everyone has a birthday party for Belle. They decorate the tree and then sing a Happy Birthday that lacks some harmony, aren’t these musicians? Troy gives Belle a compass and spits some serious game about being found since he has found Belle. Once everyone is good and wine drunk, they all go caroling.

A snowstorm rolls in. (Not a winter storm Megan, unfortunately.) Duke, the accompanist, is stranded leaving, Joe and Reba to do their final rehearsal together. Then the power goes out!

Reba and Belle talk about Christmas love while Reba lights an excessive number of electric candles. By candlelight, Joe and Reba write more Christmas songs and sing “Christmas Belle.” Joe asks what is next, and Reba tells him she can’t handle another heartbreak.

It is the night of the Snowball and Belle decides this is the moment she should talk to Reba about getting back with her father. Belle gets emotional but is calmed down by Troy because the show must go on!

Reba and Joe take the stage and perform for a sold-out crowd and for the troops overseas. We get a solid 10 mins of Reba singing time here with outfit changes. (It’s like a full-on Reba concert, folks!) The perform their new song, “I Needed Christmas.”

Joe stops during he final song and tells Reba that he needed Christmas to find his way back to her and himself. He publicly apologizes for breaking her heart (when he snubbed her at the Grammys.) Joe shows her the wedding ring he was worn as a necklace all these years and re-proposes to her. Reba says yes and they kiss on stage as the crowd cheers.

The finish the song and the movie ends with an uproar of applause. (Including me at home.)

Side Note

Minority Report: Darnesa, Duke, Troy, General,

So much sexual innuendo here. Awkward!
