Recap/Wine Thoughts

Lindsey lives with her sassy gay father, Jim. He is a chef and runs a restaurant with his “wife” Annie and Lindsey’s fiance, Gavin. Lindsey’s mom goes out for a run, and a car runs her over.

The movie takes a melodramatic turn, and a detective questions Lindsey, her father, and Gavin, laying out that Gavin is a suspect.

1) Annie was killed on her routine jog route.

2 )Gavin’s car was stolen the night before.

Lindsay sees a woman standing by a tree, watching the funeral from afar. The woman then shows up at the family home after the service for the wake. She sees the woman and her father platonically hugging and thinks he is having an affair. Jim explains that the woman is Lindsay’s sister, Sarah. He then invites Sarah to stay in his guest room. (Sarah is in between jobs and needs a place to stay.)

We get a lot of exposition. Jim had been married to another woman and wasn’t actually married to Annie. It is all convoluted, and Lindsay doesn’t take it well. She is angry, and Gavin sides with Sarah, telling his fiancée to give her a chance.

Sarah makes breakfast for her new half-sister and almost kills her because Lindsay is allergic to cinnamon.

Jim and Sarah invite themselves to Lindsay’s wedding cake tasting. Sarah gives Lindsay her favorite carrot cake, and the cinnamon almost kills Lindsay. (Why they even made a carrot cake or have cinnamon in the restaurant is a mystery!) The sisters then talk about losing their mothers.

There is some sexual tension between Sarah and Gavin; she subtly makes a pass at him. That isn’t the only tension; Jim doesn’t want to bring Gavin into the family business and instead considers Sarah. He runs the idea by Lindsay, and she agrees that he should at least be kind and offer Sarah a chance to be a part of the family.

The menacing car returned, first almost running Sarah over, and then someone rear-ended Lindsay on her way to work.

Sarah starts working at the restaurant and seems to be doing a good job, and is even invited to help with Lindsay’s wedding dress fitting. Instead of helping, Sarah literally tries on Lindsay’s wedding dress. Lindsay tells Sarah that it is a weird thing. (Which it is!)

Lindsay grows suspicious of Sarah and follows her around for a day. Sarah gets her hair done to look like Lindsay in a bad wig. Then Sarah goes to the farmers’ market and shamelessly flirts with Gavin. Lindsay gets sick and leaves work early, leaving Sarah to seduce Gavin. (Who wears a chef coat with no undershirt.) OH, WAIT, that last part is Lindsay’s fever dream. The dreams come true when Lindsay walks in on Sarah and Gavin looking intimate.

Upset and gaslit, Lindsay takes off her engagement ring and shuts Gavin out. She does some online research on “Giggio” and develops a theory that, since Gavin was passed over for an owner’s stake, he is using Sarah to gain ownership of the restaurant.

Sarah keeps playing innocent and gives her dad a picture of her in high school. Behind Lindsay’s back, she pulls bitchy faces.

As they leave the restaurant, someone attacks Lindsay. Gavin rescues her, and she begs him just to take her home. He patches her up, and Lindsay tells him that she thinks Sarah poisoned her and has been responsible for all the strange things happening. Gavin offers to help Lindsay find out more about Sarah.

Lindsay goes on her own to Sarah’s house, listed on her ID. Lindsay ignores Gavin’s calls. Gavin calls Jim, and they follow her to Sarah’s house.

Lindsay finds Gavin’s car with blood on the front bumper at the house. Sarah somehow beats everyone there and admits to doing all the bad things. (Which we see replayed, just in case we forgot.) Sarah is jealous and thinks Lindsay has the life she should of had.

The women run around the house, Sarah armed with a bat. Lindsay escapes out of a window. Gavin and Jim show up and stop Sarah from beating Lindsay with a bat.

Jim apologizes to Linday for doubting her.

One month later, the wedding takes place, and Gavin will never get partial ownership. OH WELL!
