When a tarot card reading leads to unexpected fortune, Shane thinks he’s found a recipe for success. However, as his business starts to thrive and the bodies start to pile up, his sister grows suspicious of both the psychic as well as her brother’s mysterious new girlfriend. Sarah Murphree, Jonathan Stoddard, Natalie Daniels, and Caina Summer Field.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
We start in a hospital, and I wonder if I’m watching an ER knockoff! The medical jargon! A patient dies in the ER, and the crew of doctors and nurses call it.
Twenty years later, we meet CEO Shane, who works in the pharmaceutical business his father built. The whole family appears to work for the company; Olivia is PR and keeps Shane in line. The siblings argue over their father’s vision for the company and throw in some dead mom talk. (I’m assuming she was the woman on the table.)
Shane finds an unlikely source of inspiration: Fortune Tellers and Witch Doctors. He meets a healer named Maya, who shows him to her fortune-telling table. She reads his tarot cards and explains that the cards can’t tell him what to do but inspire his path. Maya Puls, The Fool, Strength, Judgement, and the DEATH CARD. Maya tells him that somehow, through death, he and the company will find rebirth.
Shane feels empowered after reading the card. He turns down a buyer interested in the company and wants to go out to celebrate, but no one is down, so he drinks whiskey alone.
The buyer ends up dead at the bottom of the stairs after someone pushes him over the railing.
Shane goes back to Maya and wants her to tell him how she knew the buyer would die. He demands to know how she knew, and Maya tells him she didn’t know, THE CARDS DID!
While celebrating the acquisition, Shane bumps into a beautiful woman named Natalie. She tells him that he is one of the funniest CEOs she has ever met. She gives him her number, and he thinks she is the woman he will marry.
Shane goes back to Maya and wants to know more. They do another card reading, and the cards tell Shane that victory is ahead and he will find love with Natalie. Olivia thinks Shane is acting strangely and sends her assistant, Tyler, after him.
Tyler asks Maya for a reading, but Maya is very observant and notices Tyler’s messenger bag is from Shane’s company. Maya makes him a drugged cup of tea and starts the reading. The cards tell Tyler that he is following a false leader, and then the DEATH CARD AGAIN. Maya tells Tyler to be careful who he trusts. The drugs take a while to take effect, and Tyler gets to his apartment and dies before he can call for help.
Shane is ready to sign off on the merger, but Olivia tells him about Tyler’s death and then cancels to talk to the police. A very cool Detective, Rita, is Olivia’s college friend. Detective Rita tells Olivia that Tyler had Special K in his system. She also asks Olivia how long she has been sleeping with Tyler. (Damn, tell it like it is, Detective Rita.)
Natalie comforts Shane in his time of need and opens up about her mother, who died in the ER, and how it tore her family apart. Then they make out.
Shane starts taking advice from Natalie about the business and meets with Maya for more readings. The cards are pushing Shane to spend more time with Natalie. So he flys Natalie on a private jet to a lemon grove. They drink a $15K bottle of wine. Then Shane proposes!??!
Olivia doesn’t take the news well, asks Shane what the matter is with him, and warns him that he is making a big mistake. Olivia asks Detective Rita to look into Natalie’s past.
Natalie starts to catch on that people think she has ulterior motives. She meets with Maya, and they work together.
Something happens to Olivia. I’m still trying to figure out what. Olivia ends up in the hospital, tho.
Detective Rita goes to the psychic place and talks to Arabella, the owner. Arabella is confused to hear Maya has been giving readings because she is not trained to do Tarot. Rita tells Shane about what she has learned and about Maya’s REAL last name.
Maya and Natalie are sisters and their mother was killed because Shane’s father rushed a drug to market without proper testing.
Shane talks to Natalie and tells her that he knows who she really is. Shane tells her that what his father did was inexcusable. Natalie tells him that not only did her mother die, but her father drank himself to death greaving. Then, she admits to marrying Shane and plans to kill him for his money. When Shane tells her to do it, she runs away.
Olivia and Detective Rita rush to help Shane. He is home alone drinking whiskey when he gets a call from his sister. He answers, but he is stabbed with a syringe from behind.
Maya throws the Death card at him and screams at Shane while he slowly loses control of his movements. Maya literally kicks him when he is down. He hides from Maya and slowly loses consciousness.
Olivia makes it to the house and finds Natalie in the getaway car. Natalie tries to take Olivia out with a golf club, but Olivia fights her off and runs inside to help her brother.
Detective Rita fights with Maya over a knife until Olivia rushes in and smashes a whiskey bottle over Maya’s head.
Shane and Olivia try to move on with their lives, and Shane gives his sister the CEO position because she is the better executive. THE END!
Side Note/Stray Thoughts
Inspired by True Events
Jonathan Stoddard is one of the only Lifetime actors who can pull off the protagonist role.
I was hoping for some more fortune-teller magic stuff! We didn’t even bust out the crystal ball!
