Synopsis (via Lifetime)

It’s Christmastime as hopelessly romantic artist Billy Taylor and a sharp beautiful businesswoman Maire are coming to the end of their nine year marriage. Billy’s fight for Maire to stay after their heart-wrenching loss is all but over. Until… their silent pleas summon an answer in the form of a mischievous little miracle–an eight-year-old runaway from heaven who takes it upon herself to re-kindle the once intimate friendship and romance by any means necessary. Stars Christian Kane, Marley Shelton, Mallory James Mahoney, Ernie Hudson and Ryan McPartlin. (2016)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts in SPACE!!!! A comet (or angel) falls from the sky as people’s prayers go unanswered.

Billy has been married for 9 years and is precariously hanging Christmas lights when he is served divorce papers. Billy sulks around town past carolers (who are actually singing) and an array of couples annoyingly in love.

Marie owns Poet’s Walk (a bookstore?) with her husband. The town hunk, Sean, wants to buy out the business and Marie’s… heart! Billy doesn’t want to sell the business of his wife’s heart. He loves their differences and thinks they are great business partners.

After an argument, a gust of wind sends the divorce papers into the street, and then a street sweeper runs over them.

A scary man with a cane walks around and turns off Christmas lights with his presence as he walks by. (I am scared!)

Marie stops by their old home and is surprised to find the home is a mess. Billy, of course, is getting out of the shower and apologizes for the mess before calling Marie his muse. (Yuck!) They kiss but then stop, thinking better of it. Marie brings out the re-printer divorce papers and as they go to sign them, the coffee pot spills all over the papers.

Then, a little blonde girl shows up with a suitcase, and they call the police. The office and CPS show up to talk to the little girl, whose name is Taylor. The CPS lady awkwardly talks to Marie (Who colors with Taylor) like she is a child before pulling Billy aside and telling him Marie is NOT a little girl. When the police officer tries to take Marie in, Taylor handcuffs the officer. Then Marie and Billy see Taylor’s reflection in the mirror, and she isn’t there.

Marie is less freaked out than Billy and wants to care for the little girl until they figure out what is happening. Things aren’t really clarified when they learn that Taylor can FLY!!!! Taylor admits that she ran away from Heaven and apologizes for hiding her wings. She always wanted to know what it would be like to have parents, and they always wondered what it would be like to have a child. Marie is overcome with emotions.

Taylor goes to work with Marie, and she is NOT impressed with Sean. (She calls him a butt-kisser.) Then she makes fun of his starched collar and whitey tighties. Meanwhile, Billy paints pictures of Angel Taylor.

Billy and Marie continue to argue, and divorce is still on the table. Taylor asks GOD for some advice and apologizes for running away.

Billy stops looking so shluby and they eat family stir fry night. Taylor makes the food ridiculously spicy. It heats up Billy and Marie’s relationship.

Marie stays late at work, and Billy takes Taylor to bring her a Christmas gift. They see Marie and Sean at dinner holding hands. It’s the BIG misunderstanding time. The scary man with the cane is happy that things aren’t working out, and he turns out to be Winston from Ghostbusters!

Taylor tells Marie a story at bedtime instead of the other way around, and it has some deeper meaning that I’m not equipped to explain RN. Donatello is involved.

The next day, Billy asks for a divorce, and Taylor leaves while the parents argue. Marie is heartbroken and cries on the stairs. Then she moves out, and Billy takes down all the Christmas decorations.

Taylor gives both Marie and Billy gifts. Billy receives baby clothes and a CD with sonogram photos of the baby they miscarried. Taylor was that baby and was making sure that her parents stayed together for the baby that is on the way.

The following year, Marie and Billy celebrate Christmas with their baby boy. Taylor is back in heaven. The end!
