Synopsis (via Lifetime)

When her teen daughter Izzy is kidnapped and buried alive, Jamie and her ex-husband must put aside their differences and work together to raise a massive ransom and save Izzy from a premature grave. Brianna Cohen and Casey Breneman star. (2026)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Oh no. A blonde woman wakes up buried alive. It isn’t a scary coffin; it has a screen, air pumped in, and a man in a mask with a distorted voice telling her she is being held for ransom. The blonde woman laughs; she is just testing a kidnapping contraption in the back of a pickup truck, cool, cool.

Jamie, a single mother and nurse, is raising a teen, Izzy, who loves chemistry, Japanese, and Gen Z slang. Izzy is applying for FAFSA and has trouble because she doesn’t know what to put for her incarcerated father. The dad discussion causes a terrible fight between mother and daughter before Izzy leaves for school.

Izzy gets a message from her mom and leaves her a note in Japanese writing, but then someone sneaks up behind her and sedates her. Jamie walks in on the abduction and fights to save her daughter. Jamie bites the man, but then the blonde woman injects her.

Jamie wakes up in a police hospital or office or something? She has Sharpie on her arm and passes out on a cot. Izzy isn’t as lucky and wakes up in the truck coffin and is told she is being held for ransom. Izzy tells her kidnapper that her mom is a nurse and there is no money. They leave her glowsticks, sleeping pills, an iPod, protein bars, and a stuffed animal. (Can I be kidnapped? I like this setup.)

When Jamie wakes up and sees the writing on her arms, she sees it says “no cops” when she puts her arms together. The police detective is a real jerk and brings in his hot rookie cop for backup. Jamie downplays her anxiety to get out and save her daughter.

Meanwhile, Izzy talks to her stuffed animal frog, Alan, and comes up with a plan. She chews some gum to cover the camera and microphone. Then she take inventory of what she has and how she can McGruber something together to save herself. Good for her! She spends the rest of the movie talking to herself.

Jamie calls Craig in jail and tells him that he is super lame for putting her and Izzy into danger. Jamie tries to withdraw money from the bank to pay the ransom, but she can only take out 10K. Then she comes home to find a man in her kitchen. It’s Craig. I guess he is out of jail, surprise! Craig can’t imagine anyone would think he is rich and won’t take the blame. Jamie freaks out about her daughter missing, but Craig wants to help her find Izzy. Jamie reluctantly lets him help.

The kidnappers tell Izzy to take the gum off the camera and tell her to stop escaping. Izzy tries to tamper with the air duct, and they turn off the fan, which scares her. She complies with their demands, even when they tell her to say, “I’m a dumb little bitch.” (Which is so rude!)

Jamie and Craig try to make the drop point, but the dynamic cop duo stops them. Jamie talks her way out of the stop and meets with the kidnappers to make a deal. They ask for more money, of course.

Instead of getting money, Jamie and Craig grab some shovels and start digging. I appreciate their can-do attitude, but seriously?

Izzy is over here, dirt falling on her, trying to find a reason to live. (Oreos make the list? I guess they are good.)These parents need to hurry it up and save this girl.

Instead, there is a car-selling side quest and one of those claw things from the 90s? They hotwire a car after watching videos on YouTube, and seriously, why does this car even matter? Are they selling it for cash or something?

They make the second drop, and Jamie recognizes a tattoo on the man’s wrist; it matches the one on the detective. He is getting revenge for a detective cop whose life was ruined by Craig’s crime. The blonde woman was his wife and also wanted revenge. It’s a motive, but it doesn’t make much sense. The kidnappers both die before revealing where Izzy is.

Jamie and Craig talk to Izzy on the camera feed and tell her they have no idea where she is. Izzy builds a makeshift radio station tuned to radar frequencies. Her parents keep telling her she is so smart and I wish I was smarter, because… I don’t get it.

The hot cop drives the parents around while they talk to Izzy on an iPad and triangulate the signal. Then he digs Izzy out and rescues the teen. The police and paramedics arrive on the scene.

Izzy goes off to college, and Jamie has the note in Japanese: Suminimasen. Which means “Excuse me,” “I’m sorry,” and “thank you” all in one? Sure!

STRAY Thought

I spent the whole movie thinking she was in a truck bed. I’m an idiot. Hahaha
