Synopsis (via Lifetime)
After the house is robbed and the nanny’s brother is a suspect, she lies to protect him, but she then realizes he isn’t the only one with a secret.
Thoughts
Haylie Duff (Lifetime Icon) plays Claudia. She has a beer and burger with her new boyfriend, Drew. (Who is a career waiter, a good gig if you can land it!) She gets a call from her brother Carter. He needs her to bail him out of jail because he stole a car. Claudia and Drew pick up her brother and get in an argument in the car. She tells him that it is the last time she will bail him out. She has been helping her brother ever since their dad died.
Claudia somehow finds time to be a nanny for a woman named Julia and her husband, Evan. Evan travels a lot for work and is offered a position in another city, much to his wife’s frustration. They argue over moving; Julia wants to bring Claudia with them.
Carter continues to be a problem for his sister. He calls her continuously to tell her about needing 12K, or else someone will kill him. He comes to Claudia’s place of employment and looks around the house.
Meanwhile, Drew is accosted at work by his ex-girlfriend Maddie. She sends him packages and won’t leave him alone. Something is up with Drew; he is too cute NOT to be a bad boy.
While Claudia is nannying with Julia in the house, a masked intruder breaks into the house with a gun and forces Julia to open a safe and empty it. Julia’s father is also in the house and attempts to stop the masked man with a golf club, but the masked figure shoots him. (He later dies in the hospital.)
Police question Julia and Claudia. Claudia lies to protect her brother. Drew comforts her after a stressful day at work. The comforting doesn’t last long when Drew learns about the coverup. He lets her sleep alone and hangs out with his roommate Jace instead. Detectives know about the lie and tell Claudia that she is obstructing justice. Claudia comes clean and is fired from her nanny job. (Which is probably fine, because it seems like the parents are always home.) News gets to the press, and Carter is a wanted man.
Talk about being kicked when you are down, Claudia is held at gunpoint in her car and told that she would be responsible if Carter can’t pay his debts. Carter owes a guy named Tim drug money. Claudia promises to clear her brother’s name.
Claudia asks a co-worker at the restaurant about Drew and Jace’s whereabouts during the robbery. They both lied about their alibis. She suspects that they were involved somehow. When she confronts Drew, he tells her he was with hi ex-girlfriend rebreaking up with her. Drew shifts the suspicion on Jace, and the couple looks through his things.
Some very boring and very illegal bank things happen. Nicole (Evan’s assistant) looks into Jace’s financial records and sees Jace’s wiring money to the Bahamas.
Jace knows that Claudia is looking into him and demands to know what is going on. He grabs her, but Claudia manages to get away, and ELABORATELY runs from him. (She jumps a fence, runs into the woods, bangs on neighbors doors, traverses a snowy shed.)
Claudia hides from Jace, but he finds her.. by turning on the lights. Jace confesses to Claudia that he has stolen a lot of money and is headed to the Caribbean. The struggle, but she sprays him in the face with something. Drew shows up, and the men punch each other a lot. Claudia calls the police as Drew restrains Jace.
Carter’s name is cleared, and the police arrest Tim. The money Carter owes is no longer a problem! Drew isn’t a bad guy and makes up with Carter. Claudia doesn’t get her job back but runs into Julia at the mall, and they are civil to one another. This is all you can ask for, I guess!
