Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Darcy (Chabert) has always worked hard to prove herself and be successful on her own terms, even choosing to start her own company, rather than work with her father. Returning to her hometown for Christmas, Darcy reconnects with an old rival, restaurant-owner Luke (Penny), and they are forced to plan a charity event together. As Darcy spends time with her family and Luke, she starts to realize what matters most in life and sets out to mend her relationship with her father, and possibly fall in love. Based on the book of the same title by Melissa de la Cruz.

Thoughts

Lacey Chabert (Darcy, if you care to know the character’s name) is a New York Investment Banker, QUITE a stretch Hallmark. She is returning home to Ohio and her Ex-Boyfriend Carl is picking her up from the airport. He still believes they are meant to be together, and she just needs space to clear her head.

Lacey Chabert’s mom, Gloria (Queer as Folk’s Sherry Miller) is planning the Premberly League Auction and looking for a cater. She hires Luke for the job. This is her first time hosting the event and has recruited Lacey Chabert to help her pull it all together. They will be auctioning off Christmas trees this year.

Turns out Luke and Lacey Chabert were on the debate team and are reunited at his restaurant. Their relationship hasn’t changed and are back to their word sparring, which is all gobbledygook to me.

The next day, Luke shows up and Lacey Chabert is surprised he is working with them but jumps right in and starts working with him. The party has to be a success and neither one of them do anything halfway. While running errands, Carl shows up and Lacey Chabert has to introduce them to each other while they size-up one another.

Lacey Chabert learns that her work partners are meeting without her and some shady business is going down. Her dad wants her to work at his company but there is the whole Carl-works-there thing and Lacey Chabert isn’t having any of that.

At her friend’s Christmas party, Lacey Chabert and Luke get caught under the mistletoe and debate its history and significance. Will they kiss under the mistletoe? Not this early in the movie, GURL!

Lacey Chabert’s brother and his wife arrive. They announce that they are pregnant. They have everything that Lacey Chabert wants in life. She wants to be settled like everyone else in her family. Will she ever be satisfied or is she looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places?

The Christmas tree designer backs out and Lacey Chabert and Luke go to pick up trees themselves. At the tree shop Lacey Chabert stubbornly refuses to let Luke help her load the trees. She knocks over a bunch of trees and there is a negging going on with Luke and Lacey Chabert. Lacey Chabert gets the trees and solves the designer problem in the next few scenes.

Lacey Chabert Skypes into the mystery partners’ meeting. They talk business and turns out they want her to sell her share of the company. Her co-workers are even starting to poach her clients.

While Christmas Caroling, Luke talks with Lacey Chabert about his dad who died. Luke is living the dream that he and his father wanted. They also talk about previous relationships and realize that even if someone is perfect on paper they might not be the one. Mistletoe finds them again and Lacey Chabert won’t kiss him till he knows the history and significance.

At the youth centre (that is how it is spelled in the movie!) we get an extended singing scene. Lucky us! Plus a plug for Hallmark’s new cardline Paper Wonder. Luke offers to do the catering for free for some reason I missed.

A snowball fight starts while loading in decorations for the party. Lacey Chabert gets wrapped in ribbon. IDK what is happening. This movie is pretty boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lacey Chabert and her dad talk while eating pie. He really wants her to work for him, but she doesn’t know if that is what she really wants. Like, figure it out Lacey Chabert.

Luke invites Lacey Chabert to help him cook. Instead, they dance around the kitchen listening to Christmas music. Lacey Chabert is kind of jealous because Luke loves what he does and she wants to have that too.

It is the night of the auction and the servers are not going to make it. Lacey Chabert’s pregnant sister in-law and the kids from youth centre to work. The optics on this are not the best! I mean Child labor??? Lacey has a seriously insane bump it in her hair and is wearing a red dress. The event is going great, Lacey’s client show up and tells her that she is good at her job and he is sticking with her, wherever she goes.

Lacey Chabert tries to tell Luke the good news but is interrupted by Carl. He takes her to the kitchen and tells her that he is the right man for him. He wants her to go back to New York with him. Luke overhears the discussion and thinks she is going to go with him, why? I have no idea why Luke would think that. Lacey Chabert has shown no interest in Carl the whole movie. Luke spreads the hot goss that Lacey Chabert and Carl are getting back together and then storms off to get some air.

Lacey Chabert talks to her dad and agrees to work for him as long as she can help whoever she wants with investing. (Like her coffee shop friend or the Christmas tree decorator.) She is looking for Luke to tell him that she is crazy about him.

Outside the party, Luke and Lacey Chabert find each other. They clear up the thing that wasn’t confusing at all and kiss under the mistletoe. (Luke did his research this time.)
