Synopsis (via Hallmark)
As Christmas nears, heiress Jessica Morgan seizes what seems like her last chance to experience a relaxed Christmas and heads off to the small town of Glenbrooke, where she meets a handsome fireman.
Thoughts
Jessica is a rich lady who has people working for her., including a driver stocked with peppermints. She is the new CEO of her grandfather’s company and doodles while on business calls. She visits her grandfather at the family mansion and is greeted by lots of staff. They raised Jessica because her parents died when she was a child.
Cut to a hot firefighter chief named Kyle. He is fixing a church bell with his rookie firefighter named Ruthie. The town is where Jessica’s parents met. They made a wish outside of the church to be together.
At a family party, Jessica is asked out on a date by handsome men. Oh, wait, no, he just wants to talk business. How rude. Jessica decides to rent her parents’ old home and just be an average person for a few days in their home town. Glenbrooke, CO. Kyle is jaywalking, and Jessica almost hits him, ruining his box of cookies. They wish each other a merry Christmas and move on with their day.
Jessica almost burns down the rental place upon arrival, causing Kyle and Ruthie to stop by to put out the fire. Jessica thanks Kyle for his help, and he lectures her. He is very serious—everyone in the town already knows about Kyle and Jessica’s run in and is already shipping for them to get together.
With nothing to do and nowhere to be, Jessica sketches in her notebook and finds time for herself.
Kyle helps Jessica pick out a tree and decorate it for the rental home. Jessica talks about her dead parents, and Kyle mentions his mother is out of town with her Bunco friends. His father recently died. They agree that Glenbrooke is the best town.
Jessica explores her art more and starts substitute teaching art classes in town. Her lesson includes playing music and having the class paint what it makes them feel. Kyle is worried that the church bells won’t ring this year because of the fire. The bells ringing means a lot to Jessica, and she asks him to figure it out for her. She shares the story of her parents and shows him a photo. They died in a car accident on the way to hear the bells in town.
Jessica and the art students sell their paintings to raise money for the bell repair. (She could just pay for it herself, no?) Jessica’s secret comes out, and she is worried Kyle will learn that she is rich. (He has a problem with Rich people.) Jessica plans to tell Kyle after the Christmas fundraiser. (again, can’t Jessica just donate some money?)
Kyle and Jessica read The Night Before Christmas and then have a fancy outdoor dinner in a Christmas tree lot. Jessica drinks beer right out of the bottle to show she is a downhome gal. (Urm, okay?) Their date ends with a kiss on the cheek and the promise to talk about their new relationship tomorrow.
At the fundraiser, Jessica runs into an old friend who knows her as an heiress. The fundraiser is a huge success, and Kyle leaves to call the bell repairman. Jessica joins him outside, and he gets a text telling him that she is a rich lady. Kyle sees Jessica differently and thinks she is a liar. They break up, and Jessica heads out of Glenbrooke before the bells ring. She leaves behind her sketch pad.
Ruthie shows Kyle the sketches and tells him to give her another chance. He realizes he is an idiot for letting her go and chases after Jessica. Calling in a road closure and shows up in his fire truck. They apologize in the street and agree to give it a shot. They go back to town and find her grandfather at the rental home. He is supportive of her being in Glenbrooke and pursuing art teaching and working remotely for his company as the CEO. (Can I work remotely as a CEO?)
Kyle and Jessica ring the church bells. They brought them together. They kiss. The end!
