Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Jeff Mitchell seems to have it all: an interesting and lucrative job, a loving wife, and two amazing kids. Life is good. And then, one bright day, a cosmic sucker punch comes from out of the blue. When Jeff was in high school, unbeknownst to him, he got his girlfriend pregnant. The girl moved away, had the baby, and raised her as a single mother, never telling her daughter, Carlee, who her real father was. However, Carlee’s mother recently died in a tragic accident, prompting Carlee to try and uncover the truth. Annika Foster, Tu Morrow, Matthew Pohlkamp star. (2022)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with a beautiful sorority girl on a light jog around campus. She sees someone lying on the ground in the bushes, and when she checks on the girl, the sorority girl is attacked.

Cut to a handsome father, Jeff, and handsome wife, Lisa, getting their kids, Noah and Ella, ready for school. Jeff is passed up for a promotion and drowns his sorrow in a bar.

At the bar, Jeff is approached by a college-aged girl named Carlee. She tells him that she is his father. Her mother was his high school sweetheart and recently died. Jeff asks Carlee to take a DNA test to make sure her story checks out. Carlee surprisingly agrees instantly.

Carlee passes the test, and the Mitchell Family invites her to a BBQ. Ella’s boyfriend, Ryan, comforts her because she is suspicious/jealous of the new woman coming into the family. Carlee opens up about her life and struggles. Ella doesn’t care and wants to see her birth certificate. Something is off; she just can’t put her finger on it.

Jeff and Lisa invite Carlee to move into their home after she mentions struggling to pay rent. Carlee is happy to have a new family and even protects her new little brother from bullies. She tries to bond with Ella, but it ends up being super awkward.

Carlee murders Jeff’s hot co-worker Blake to win her new family over. She seduces Blake at a restaurant, roofies his drink, and I guess she kills him? (Or at least stages an overdose.) Ryan sees Carlee sneaking home late a night and joins his girlfriend Ella in her suspicion of the new addition to the family. When Ella asks Carlee about it, Carlee denies leaving the house that night.

Ella’s parents forbid her from seeing her boyfriend. Carlee tells the family that Ryan attacked her and shows them bruises on her neck. Ryan tries to clear his name and confronts Carlee while recording the conversation on his phone. She is onto him and sticks to her story. Ryan screams at Carlee, and some neighbors see the altercation and are worried for Carlee.

Carlee breaks into Ryan’s home and holds him at knifepoint. She tells him that she will kill him and his family if he keeps talking.

Ella decides to take matters into her own hands and visits the college Carlee claims to have gone to. The sorority sisters have heard of Carlee and the story of her half-sister, but they tell Ella that the REAL Carlee was murdered on campus. In a picture, Ella recognizes fake Carlee. The sorority girls tell Ella that she was their housekeeper, Samantha. Ella uses some of Carlee’s hair to send to the DNA lab for testing.

Noah also realizes that Carlee is a liar when a hunk recognizes Samantha/Carlee on the street and tries to catch up. She aggressively tells him that he has the wrong person. (Like screams in his face. He was just trying to say “hi,” damn.) Poor former classmate hunk!

The altercation causes Noah to sneak into Carlee’s room, where he finds the real DNA test and Blake’s wallet. He is caught and tries to hide the incriminating evidence BEHIND HIS BACK! He screams for his parents, and Carlee tries to explain before bolting out the front door.

Jeff and Lisa call the police, who now have a pretty good suspect for multiple murders. They set up a patrol car outside for the family’s protection. Jeff and Lisa take the opportunity for a DATE NIGHT???? (What is wrong with them, terrible parenting)

Ella and Ryan watch a movie while Noah plays video games upstairs. The doorbell rings, and Ella answers it, thinking that it is the pizza delivery guy. Which it is, but Carlee sneaks into the house and cuts off the power.

Ryan goes downstairs to check the breaker, and Carlee trips him on the stairs. She ties him up and holds Ryan at knifepoint while Ella tries to reason with her. Carlee tells Ella that she just wanted a typical family and goes on while Ryan gets himself untied. He overpowers Carlee, and they make a run for it. Ella kicks Carlee down the stairs sending her to her death.

Jeff and Lisa realize that they are terrible parents, but they all hug outside in front of the house as the police take away the dead body. Awwwww!
