Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Stephanie is originally planning to spend the holidays moving in with her boyfriend… until he breaks up with her. Faced with spending the holidays heartbroken, and homeless, she books a last minute flight home. Meanwhile, Michael is going to spend Christmas with his long-distance girlfriend. After years of being together he figures it’s time to pop the question. Stephanie and Michael find themselves on the same flight the day before Christmas Eve, and the two do not get off to a great start. Things get even worse when the pilot announces an unexpected snowstorm is crossing the country and they are being diverted to Montana. Stephanie snags the last available room at a small town bed and breakfast and in the spirit of the holidays she offers to share it with Michael. Snowed in and trying their best to get along, they discover they might not have to try that hard after all. Mayim Bialik, Ryan McPartlin, Reginald VelJohnson, Jo Marie Payton, Brian Doyle-Murray star. (2015)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with Christmas in L.A. (Nothing like decorated palm trees!) We meet our protagonist, Stephanie (played by

Mayim Bialik) from now on, she will only be referred to as Blossom. (Although she is probably best known for The Big Bag Theory at this point!)

Blossom is shopping with a friend when her Jewish mother in Connecticut calls while baking cookies. (Christmas AND Hanukkah, thank you!) Blossom’s mother, Debbie, REALLY wants her daughter home for the holidays and to meet her new boyfriend, Brian! No one can guilt trip like a Jewish mother! (Amiright?) The trouble is that Brian breaks up with Blossom before they can move in together.

At the same outdoor Mall, Michael is looking at engagement rings for his long-distance girlfriend, Courtney. (Who only seems interested in him because she can control him.) He wears dorky glasses to cover up how hot he is. He is having trouble finding the perfect ring.

Blossom watches T.V. while crying and decides she needs to go home for Christmas. She books a flight, and then she is at LAX making a wish with the airport Santa. The only thing is the REAL Santa stands behind the airport Santa, and he hears her.

Blossom and Michael pump into one another, and she is very frazzled. At the check-in, Blossom can’t find her boarding pass and is helped by the real Santa, who puts her on the same flight as Michael.

Then while boarding, the real Santa gets Michael to trade his first-class seat to be seated in the back next to… Blossom. She is on the phone with Brian screaming at him for breaking up with her during the holidays and essentially rendering her homeless.

Michael and Blossom have snippy conversations during the flight. Then they hit turbulence. (Cue an accidental hand grab!) The flight is diverted to Montana. The flight alternatives aren’t great, and Michael and Blossom are stuck. They spend the night in the airport trying to make travel arrangements and avoid one another.

That damn real Santa, Nole, is back again and gives Blossom the number for an Inn that just happens to have a suite available. Blossom feels bad for Michael and invites him to share it with her. The town of Charles Peak is quaint and full of cheerful characters, like the inn owners!!! (Family Matters Icons: Reginald VelJohnson &

Jo Marie Payton.)

At the inn, Michael and Blossom call their loved ones to tell them they are safe. Courtney promises to give Michael a back rub when he gets back. Until she hears Blossom in the background and wonders why he is staying in a hotel room with a woman!

The following day, Blossom and Michael argue and try to avoid seeing one another changing or showering. When Michael comes out of the bathroom in a shower, everyone is sexually aroused. Then they go downtown for some food (Flapjacks and hot chocolate with extra marshmallows.) and holiday cheer. The town has a Christmas fair, and the travelers play carnival games while talking about their childhood and loving working/living in L.A. They stop at a little jewelry store and look at rings for Caroline before getting into a fight about who sucks at relationships harder.

Another storm rolls into town and traps the travelers there for another night. They get dolled up and head downtown for the Charles Peak Christmas Eve Dance. Which seems more like a hoe-down/dance-a-thon. Michael and Blossom dance horribly off beat while the Winslows dance circles around them.

Blossom asks Michael how he knows Courtney is the one. He isn’t sure and tells her that the excitement of a relationship wears off. Then they debate what creates a good relationship. Michael tells Blosson that she deserves a fairytale, and they almost kiss!

The two separate and talk to the wise old Winslows. Since they have been married for years AND run a business together, they give sound advice like, “Life can surprise you.” and “Loyalty is important, but it is not the same thing as Faith and Love.”

Blossom and Michael practice their love speeches. Blossom knocks over Michael’s briefcase and sees he bought an engagement ring. She runs off to the airport before Michael can talk to her, and he chases after her with the Winslows driving!

In the TSA security line, which has no line, Michael freezes and makes things awkward. Blossom tells him to have a great life and enjoy his marriage and boards her flight. He walks away while the song literally says, “Watching you walk away.”

Blossom is reunited with her family, and we see them enjoying family holiday time inner cut with Michael breaking up with Courtney. (Very calmly!)

Back in L.A., Blossom and Michael mope around during that weird time between Christmas and New Year. They naturally get invited to the same party and run into one another. Michael admits he has been looking for her to ask her out on a date. They count down the new year and finally kiss.(He is WAY taller than her.) Then they see the REAL Santa and kiss again as he watches on while nodding. Santa, you creepy!
