Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Divorced mom Hannah uses a popular dating app to find the wonderful Daniel. Soon after, Hannah’s babysitter is murdered and Hannah herself barely escapes an attempt on her life at work. It’s only when friend and neighbor Charlotte is killed that Hannah banishes Daniel. Someone wants her dead for certain, but what if it’s not Daniel? Candice Singleton, Rico Ball star. (2022)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts in a lovely suburban complex. Hannah is co-parenting her daughter, Maddie, with her cheating ex-husband, Josh. Hannah is all about keeping her boundaries because the relationship is working well. Hannah is even up for dating.

Hannah’s new friend Charlotte sets her up on a dating app called THE DATING APP. They talk about Hannah’s type; she likes guys who are kind and considerate, basically the opposite of Josh. Josh is handsome but ugly on the inside.

While doing yoga by the pool, Hannah swipes on guys while taking a water break. She is unimpressed with the app. Josh sees a notification go off and warns Hannah of the crazy rapists on these apps. She tells him to look up divorce in the dictionary because he shouldn’t be giving her relationship advice.

Hannah goes on dates in an awkward dating montage, and they are all terrible. Until Daniel rolls in with this shirt sleeves rolled up. He is over the dating apps too. Hannah takes things slowly and doesn’t want to disclose information about her daughter until she feels comfortable. Daniel respects her boundaries.

Daniel makes it to the second date, where we learn he is an architect like Mike Brady!

The dates continue and include charades, sexy night yoga, and talks bonfire in the woods. Hannah decides to take things to the next level and spend the night at Daniel’s condo. (That he designed.)

The movie wastes no time getting them into bed for some sensual cuddling and random foot shots. Hannah leaves in the middle of the night and sneaks into her house. Since Kara, the babysitter, and sleeping in Hannah’s room, Hannah sleeps in her daughter’s bed.

In the middle of the night, someone breaks into the house and kills Kara, thinking she is Hannah. Hannah finds the body and calls the police; she has Josh take care of Maddie.

Detectives question Hannah and Josh. Then the detective gets real personal and asks about Hannah’s sexual partners and wonders if it was a one-night thing. Josh is curious to hear too!

Charlotte confronts Josh because she was him sitting in his car outside the house the night of the murder. She tells him that she told the detective about it, so he is a person of interest now. Then Charlotte gives Hannah a gun for her safety.

Daniel is sympathetic until he hears that Hannah gave his information to the police. He mean mugs her while drinking his hot coffee with stirring straws. Then he agrees to help install security cameras in her home.

With the house secure, Josh drops Maddie off at Hannah’s home. He asks for the security code for the alarm, but Hannah refuses.

Speaking of Maddie, she is hoping to be the next Simone Biles. She meets Daniel after one of her practices, and he takes them out to dinner. Maddie runs and tells her dad about Daniel and how he bought her AirPods. Josh is PISSED.

While helping a patient in physical therapy at a pool, someone shuts the lights off. Hannah is attacked in the locker room and dragged into the steam room. (Her towel stays perfectly in place!) The attacker locks the door by placing a mop in the door handle so Hannah can’t push the door open. She manages to kick the door down and is admitted to the hospital.

The detective realizes that Hannah is the intended target. Charlotte doesn’t like the detective because she feels like the detective isn’t doing her best. Charlotte started to do her detective work. She places doubts in Hannah’s mind about Daniel from the app.

Hannah hangs out with Daniel even though she isn’t sure how she feels about him. Daniel says he understands and shares about his last relationship that he met on the app, who was possessive and obsessed with him. Hannah doesn’t take it well because he only broke up with the dating app girl a month before starting to date Hannah.

The detective sits down and talks to Charlotte about a past abusive relationship. It was so bad that the detective had to get facial reconstruction. The detective shares that she has a good man now. The detective convinces Charlotte to wear a wire and meet with Daniel/

Daniel and Charlotte meet at a restaurant. The detective and Hannah listen in. Daniel says that he is in love with Hannah, and it sounds like he really means it. The detective is extra harsh in the car and accuses Hannah of putting on a helpless damsel act to get attention from men.

Charlotte feels the same way as Hannah and asks The Detective to take Hannah to the station to talk to the police chief about getting Hannah a bodyguard. She also starts to have suspicious of the detective. It is too late tho, because Charlotte is strangled to death at Hannah’s house.

The detective joins Hannah to talk to the security company. The files from the day of the murder disappear while the detective tries to pull them up on an iPad. They think that Daniel must have removed them remotely because he was the one who recommended the security system.

Daniel goes to the police station to talk with the detective working the case and realizes it is his ex-girlfriend Jodie. The one who was obsessed with him. He tries to call Hannah, but she is meeting the detective.

Jodi attacks Hannah when she enters the building, and the women struggle over a gun. Jodi is quickly arrested because this movie is almost over!

Josh shows up in a t-shirt, and my man is built like a Dorito! Was he this built the whole time or did the costume department just decide to give him a tight shirt. (I’m sorry, Hannah should totally be with John!)

Three months later, Hannah has moved to the woods with Daniel. They drink champagne on a dock by the bay. They both delete The Dating App!

  1. My thoughts. First off I knew it wasn’t her ex. Totally different build. Looked like a female. Didn’t register till Daniel mentioned the crazy last woman he dated. How come she never questioned that it could be the last woman who still hasn’t gotten over him and wants to eliminate the competition? She immediately pushed him away instead of reasoning on it. Then the more the detective kept showing up and shared her story…I knew
