After being home-schooled, Sky can’t wait to get back into the high school experience and make some friends. But, when her new gang seems to prefer shoplifting to hanging out, Sky wonders whether she’s fallen in with the wrong crowd. Alicia Leigh Willis, Jhey Castles, and Houston Rhines star (2022).
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with a girl named Sherri, who wears glasses and freshly applied lip gloss while speeding down a windy backwoods road with a trunk full of stolen merchandise. Sherri heads to a cabin that is full of expensive designer duds. Someone named Heather calls Sherri to see if the job is complete, and Sherri wants out of the thieving ring. Be careful what you wish for because someone in a letterman jacket and a ski mask strangles her to death.
Cut to asthmatic teenager Sky, who is heading to her first day of school… ever? (Let’s say she was home-schooled.) Her mother, Nicole, drops her daughter off after venting to her dead sexy husband. (Kevin.)
Speaking of hunks, Sky sees a cute boy at school named Trey and stumbles over herself. Sky bumps into an old friend named Marnie. (Classic Hitchock reference?) Both Marnie and Trey wear lettermen jackets. Oh, wait, ALL the popular people in school wear the same jackets.
Heather, Tabby, and some other girl are all on the basketball team and seem to know about Sherri and the shoplifting. Trey is in on it too, but it is clear Heather is running the show when the hunk goes in for a kiss, and she slams his head into a locker. (There is some sloppy fight choreography here.)
After the whitest basketball practice ever, the coach recruits Sky to help with some team scoring. She isn’t recruited to join the shoplifting ring, which Marnie is a part of too!
The ruse goes like this. Heather and Tabitha pretend to be wealthy ladies, and one pretends to be pregnant with a fake belly. Then a third girl comes into the store to distract the sales associate with questions while the other two blatantly throw clothing around like basketballs and fill up the fake belly with merch.
Sherri’s mother almost catches the girls, but she is distracted and desperately looking for her daughter. Sherri’s mother is outside her house when the masked letterman jacket killer kills her.
Coach Sandy is a former classmate of Nicole’s, so she is surprised her daughter is on the basketball team with someone Nicole didn’t get along with back in the day. When Coach Sandy and Nicole meet, Nicole tries to squash things. Coach Sandy apologizes for being cruel.
While studying for a test, Marnie randomly dumps out a bunch of stolen clothing and asks Sky to help her sell it online. Sky agrees and thinks that she is helping her former BFF pay for college. Sky looks at an old picture of them at Marnie’s cabin until she overhears Marnie and Trey arguing outside. Sky breaks it up, and Marnie explains that Trey has been asking her out for months and isn’t taking no for an answer.
Sky hides the merchandise because she knows something shady is going down. That doesn’t stop her mother from grounding her and setting a curfew. (Nicole doesn’t mess around!)
The clothing goes online, and Sky gets her letterman jacket. It isn’t long before Sky realizes she is selling stolen merchandise. When Sky confronts the girls, they blackmail her into continuing to sell for them since the evidence has been listed from her IP address and laptop. Sky gets overwhelmed and has to take some of her inhalers to calm down before agreeing to continue to help.
Just as Sky is about to tell her mother about the girls on the team, someone in a letterman breaks into the house and smashes a vase. Sky finds a picture smashed in her room and a note that says to be a “team player.:
Nicole and her hot husband find out soon enough because Nicole finds an $800 purse in Sky’s closet. Sky tries to cover but lies terribly and scolds her parents for invading her privacy. Next, Nicole goes to the principal of the school for answers! She volunteers at the school to keep tabs on her daughter. Nicole talks with Coach Sandy, who suggests that Sky be removed from the team. Nicole and her hot husband tell their daughter she is off the team, and Sky freaks out, eventually having to pull on her inhaler.
Coach Sandy calls Heather into her offer and tells her that things have gotten way out of hand. She is in on the ring and is covering for the girls to pay off a debt to blackmailers. Coach Sandy hooked up with a student unknowingly… TREY! Trey has been holding the affair over Coach Sandy for 50K. The team has been helping their coach because they are a family.
Trey finally speaks; he is hot and tries to seduce Sky. That doesn’t work, and Sky calls him toxic after he threatens her and her mother. This causes Sky to quit the team and tells the girls off and throws down her letterman jacket because things have gotten WAY out of hand.
Nicole is attacked in a parking lot by the masked figure in a letterman jacket. Nicole uses her smart call to see around the car and can fight him off. (This is the first time I’ve ever seen that in a Lifetime movie! Smart!)
Sky finds Sherri’s phone j Heather’s letterman jacket in Coach Sandy’s office. Sky calls Marnie and tries to warn her friend. Marnie agrees that is time to stop Heather.
Heather and the other girls are mid-shoplifting. The police are called, and Heather makes a run for it. She is stopped by the letterman jacket person, who turns out to be Marnie. Marnie knocks out Sky and kidnaps her so she can transfer all the money to Marnie.
Nicole searches for her daughter and sees Coach Sandy being arrested. She realizes that the girls are in trouble. Nicole asks Marnie’s mother if she knows anything. (Which she doesn’t)
Marnie has been Jealous of Sky and her relationship with her mother. Marine has been dating Trey and orchestrated the whole thing with Coach Sandy. Marnie talks about wanting a better life and admits to killing Sherri.
There is a knife fight, and Sky becomes overworked and needs her inhaler. Nicole, Hot Husband, and Marnie’s mom show up. They try to stop her from killing Sky.
It eventually comes down to Sky stabbing Marnie. Everyone survives except Sherri. Poor Sherri!
Sky goes back to her normal life, and her parents trust her now! Yay!
