Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with a home invasion and a burglar with an exceptionally good blowout. She poisons a bottle of whiskey with a syringe and sneaks out. A businessman comes home, has his glass of whiskey on the rocks, and dies. The young woman burglar stands over his body and watches him take his last breath, then she steals his watch, a gift from Mary. (We see an engravement on the back.)
Cut to hunk waking up in bed with someone who, unfortunately, isn’t me. His name is Nick Sherman, and his wife is named Jen. They are raising their little daughter, Juju.
Nick works in appliances and has an assistant named Callie. They work on the tech of the smart appliances and find a bug that allows hackers access to the home cameras. When Nick brings it up in a meeting, his boss Lisa is impressed, and co-worker Bob is pissed that the launch will be delayed.
Lisa invites Nick to lunch and talks about Nick’s family while she chugs wine. She mentions that she wanted to have a family, but it was too late because she focused too much on work. Nick tells her that it is never too late and ensures her that she would make a great mother. Lisa offers him a promotion and passes over Bob for the role.
Nick tells Jen about the promotion, and she is supportive. Jen has been putting her own ambitions aside to help take care of Juju and the home while Nick works, so the promotion is bittersweet. Jen will now have to join him at an app launch and work events. Bob places doubts in Jen’s mind and talks about late nights in Nick’s future with Lisa.
We see Lisa at home, and she has the watch from earlier. She is the blowout burglar. Lisa gifts the couple a teddy bear for Juju with a camera inside. She watches them and applies to adopt a child of her own. The social worker tells Lisa that she is not a good candidate because of her demanding work hours.
Speaking of work hours, Nick is putting a lot of time into his job. He works late with Lisa, who attempts to seduce him. She really lays it on heavy, but Nick turns her down. Bob witnesses the whole interaction.
Lisa is learning Jen’s routine of dropping off JuJu, going to a coffee shop, and doing yoga. The following day, Lisa skips work and follows Jen around. Lisa hacks into Jen’s phone while advising her to hire a nanny. Lisa can now view Jen’s camera at any time and send text messages. She creates a narrative that someone named RT is texting Jen, and Nick thinks his wife is having an affair. (Lisa uses the watch as proof and leaves it outside of Nick and Jen’s house.)
Nick gets called into work ON A SATURDAY, and it is the end of the world. Jen tells him that she is going to live her life and stop making plans with him.
At work, Lisa notices that Nick is distracted. She uses his emotional vulnerability against him and acts concerned about his well-being. Nick tells Lisa about the affair that he thinks Jen is having. They do it on his desk.
Bob threatens to go to HR and report Lisa for inappropriate behavior. He was her boy toy before Nick, but he wouldn’t have a baby with her, and things didn’t work out. Lisa won’t have people threatening her, so she bludgeons him to death and stages it to look like a suicide because of the pass over for the promotion.
Jen notices a glitch on her phone and tries to tell Nick about what she saw, but the news about Bob’s disappearance brings Nick back into the office. Lisa asks Nick to join her alone in her office for a bottle of champagne to celebrate their new relationship. She tells him she sees good things for them, but Nick hesitates. When Lisa brings up the watch in the driveway, Nick realizes that he didn’t tell anyone about it. He looks at his phone and sees that Lisa hacked into his system to frame Jen. Lisa tries to explain, but Nick isn’t having it and ends things. Lisa scratches his chest while screaming.
Nick comes home and has a heart-to-heart with Jen but leaves out the details of what really happened. He tells Jen about the phone glitch and asks her to turn off all their devices. Lisa watches the whole thing from the teddy bear cam and breaks a wine glass. Jen is annoyed about not being able to use her laptop, but Nick is right. He finds the hidden camera in the teddy bear and destroys it.
A detective stops by and asks Nick questions about a reported sexual assault. The detective takes pictures of the scratches on Nick’s chest as evidence. Nick recounts what happened. The detective isn’t buying it and suspects him of having something to do with Bob’s disappearance.
Cassie picks Nick up from jail and promises to help him figure out what is happening.
Nick finally has to be honest with Jen and tells her about the affair. She is heartbroken. Jen moves out with Juju and stays at her sister’s house.
Lisa waits at Nick’s house and tells him that he hasn’t been a good boy. Lisa offers to make all the charges go away. Then she drugs him with a syringe. Lisa tells Nick that once Jen is out of the picture, they can become the family they were meant to be.
Nick wakes up tied to a chair in his home and struggles to free himself. Cassie finds him and helps him track down Jen by tracking her cell phone.
Lisa grabs a big kitchen knife and goes out to take care of Jen. Lisa runs Jen off the road and sticks her in the neck with a syringe. Then she throws Jen in the back of her car and takes her to the woods. Lisa goes knife crazy and starts swinging it around and ends up stabbing Nick. Cassie saves them all by hitting Lisa with an iPad.
The worst part is that the adoption agency approved Lisa and didn’t have to do all this to get that baby.
Side Note
I’ve never noticed Marc Herrmann‘s gray streak, but I love it.

You are hilarious! I never watch LifeTime movies but your Uncorked! drew me in. Once I started reading your conversational style writing kept me there. I loved the crack you made about the hunky male lead Nick not waking up with YOU! Very funny!
