Synopsis (via Hulu)

A young radio show producer sets her recently separated boss up on live-on-air blind dates to save their dying show but accidentally falls for one of the contenders and must choose her head or her heart in time for Christmas.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with Denise Richards for a split second.

Cut to Kenzie Parker, who has a pet goldfish and loves Christmas. She produces a morning radio show with her friend Mya for celebrity Brooke Walkins, AKA Denise Richards. She meets a handsome man on the elevator at work, Ben Covington.

Ben works with a British guy named Liam, obsessed with Ben’s dating life. Liam and Maya have a meet cute later at the cafe, so there is that!

The radio show isn’t doing well (not surprising), and the station manager wants to freshen it up. He suggests that Brooke is withdrawn and moody. Brooke is actually going through a separation from her husband, Todd, and it is a secret. Brooke tells Kenzie that she worries it will ruin her credibility. The gossip swirls.

Kenzie and Ben run into one another in the lobby and swap some papers by mistake. She calls him, and they decide to meet in the lobby at 1 p.m. They have a cute little meeting, and Ben admits to taking his mom out for Wednesday night dinners, which is cute. He asks her out on a date for Friday.

Brooke agrees with Kenzie’s idea of coming clean about the separation and being vulnerable with the listeners. The calls come flying in, and 101 submissions for winning a date with Brooke for the Christmas Saure. Todd gets news of the live-on-air dates and gets jealous.

Dating interview montage! Spoiler: they are all terrible! Ben saves her from a particularly bad date, and Kenzie is VERY thankful.

On-air dates happen, and Brooke is less concerned about who will win the dating contest and how she will be spending the holidays with her daughter and Todd since it is their first one as a separated family. Brooke meets Todd at her house and tells him she is in a better place. They seem to me vibing and will probably get back together.

Brooke stands Kenzie up for a meeting because she is so caught up in talking to Todd about memories. Kenzie ends up standing Ben up for their date. It’s a double stand-up!!!!!!

Thankfully, Ben stays and looks amazing in a turtle neck. He might be the only person who can pull off that look, TBH! Kenzie hits it off with Ben, and they talk about food. He invites her to a special food tasting and confirms that he is single.

Later, while checking out dates for Brooke, Maya, and Kenzie see that Ben has applied for the dating show. Maya suggests that Ben was using Kenzie to get to Brooke. (OR his mom submitted him!?)

When the dates go terribly, Kenzie has to call Ben in for a date with Brooke, FOR THE RATINGS!

For some reason, Ben goes along with it. He assumes he will be doing Kenzie a favor, but she gets jealous. Brooke only wants to be with Todd and has second thoughts about the separation.

Ben finds out his mother applied for him and tries to explain himself to Kenzie, but she doesn’t have it; he is good for ratings and saving the show. Then she cries by the Christmas tree dramatically.

It’s a good thing that Todd’s online dating profile was just a joke. Kenzie realizes she has to play matchmaker for real, even if it means losing the show. Kenzie sets Todd and Brooke up on a dinner date before the Christmas work party. Then she calls Ben and cancels his date with Brooke.

At the party, Kenzie WEARS BROWN?!?! Ewww. It is a radio show, so I guess it doesn’t matter. She speaks about Brooke following her heart and getting back with Todd. Brooke makes a speech and invites Ben to come up and be Kenzie’s date.

They make out, and everyone cheers. Party over!

After Christmas, Kenzie gets her own morning show, and Brooke will continue to do her show and have more time for her family.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

I like that the lead actress is also the screenwriter.

Ummm, why a radio show?! Why?!?!
