A woman (Morgan) returns home to help with her family’s Christmas Carnival and romance ignites. A photo journalist (Rowe) curates a surprise reunion. Starring Mishael Morgan, Ronnie Rowe Jr. and Jaime M Callica.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Mona is 35 and single; she should probably throw herself off a cliff! She is on a third date with a handsome man, and she dreams of getting married. Mona invites her date to come to her hometown for Christmas for a Christmas carnival. He tells her that he is getting back with his ex-wife. He tries to soften the blow, but she gives him a look like, GTFO!
Mona vents to her roommate, Shay. Shay boosts her friend up and reminds her that she has a boutique. Mona wants to find love like her mother and sister did at the carnival’s magic Christmas dance.
Mona’s parents plan the Christmas Carnival yearly. They wait for the right time to tell their kids this will be the last year. Mona’s sister, Erin, excitedly tells her about a reporter, Dez, coming to do a story on the town. When Mona and Dez meet, she needs to be addressed. He uses business cards and is from Brooklyn.
Mona’s mother sets her up with a hunky man named Fletcher, who is very self-assured. Mona is INTO IT! (He might be an ex-or something?)
Dez works on his story and is interested in the town. Mona shows him around and says that it is not New York!
No matter how much this movie wants it to be, a carnival is not sexy. Mona shows Dez AND Fletcher how to work the carnival games and carnival bark. Her dad catches her almost kissing!
Erin and Mona wrap Christmas presents while listening to soulful Christmas music. They even bust out an old dance routine. Erin tells her sister that she should date Dez instead of Fletcher because Fletcher broke up with Mona as a teenager. Later, when the men meet one another, they realize they are both into the same woman.
Fletcher takes Mona out on a date to the fire station. When he picks her up, he doesn’t come to the door and honks from the driveway, which is RUDE! While they decorate a fire truck, he tells her that he isn’t interested in kids and a family. (Which Mona has been wishing for ever since she was a kid.) He is obviously not the right man for her. They almost kiss but are interrupted by the fire alarms.
Mona is an influencer and uses her powers for good to raise publicity for the Christmas Carnival and dance. Will Mona meet her Christmas love, like her sister and mother did?
Fletcher gets jealous of Dez and just leaves the carnival; he almost asks Mona to the dance but changes his mind. Later, he asks her in a roundabout way but gets interrupted. He finally asks, but Mona is kind of over it by then.
Dez, on the other hand, is a gentleman. He helps Erin with her kids, who are upset that their father is deployed. Dez also enjoys meals with the family and even gives Mona his jacket when she is cold. Mona still isn’t into him, and she REALLY doesn’t like him after finding a draft of the article. It is a takedown piece going after the family, carnival, and the town. Dez tries to explain, but Mona doesn’t hear it.
Erin’s husband shows up just in time for Christmas Eve. (Thanks to Daz pulling some strings.) A gift shows up at the door, and it is the final copy. Mona is touched and rushes to stop Dez from leaving. She runs into Fletcher at the door and breaks up with him.
Mona chases after Dez and tells him she loves the article. He asks he to the dance back in her hometown and they go back. Mona decides to run the Christmas carnival after all and take over for her parents. Mona and Dez kiss, the end!
Note/Stray Thoughts
Good for Jaime M. Callica making himself a home in TV movies. Even as the bad boy.
Part of Hallmarks Mahogony line.
