Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Harrington is the author of a popular book series, but commercial success has left him a bitter recluse. As he returns to his hometown for an annual Christmas festival celebrating his books, he’s joined by April, a publicist for the major publishing house he works with. April is there for damage control after Harrington’s recent comments on social media have ruffled some feathers. But as she gets to know him better, hope springs that April can unlock Harrington’s guarded heart and help him rediscover the spirit of the holiday. Starring Lyndie Greenwood and Paul Campbell.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Harrington Davis is a famous author who wrote a Christmas hit called Magic and Mistletoe. The fame causes him to become a recluse, and a rumor turns out that he thinks writing the books of Magic and Mistletoe was all a cash grab.

Not Twitter and Not Entertainment Tonight.

April is his book agent and has to smooth over the PR nightmare. She plans to bring Harrington to the Magic and Mistletoe convention as the guest of honor. She rushes off to convince Harrington Davis and misses out on Christmas with her family.

Harrington hides out in a cafe with a sassy barista named Debbie. April charms him by asking him to sign a tattered copy of his book. The rouse is over quickly, and April tries to pitch Harrington a plan to fix this PR nightmare. Harrington isn’t thrilled about returning to his hometown with April. Then she reminds him that if he doesn’t go, he will be in breach of contract.

Loved this coat!

April arrives in Mistletoe, meets with the town Mayor, and checks into a beautiful home turned into a museum because it was Harrington’s when he was a child. She meets the manager, who calls Harrington “Harry” and is his childhood friend. April is surprised that the writer has made the flight and is in town to make amends. Harrington demands to only attend three holiday events. April stays at a local Bed and Breakfast.

At the kick-off event, April makes a Christmas wish and meets the people who inspired the characters in his book. She asks them to give tips to get him on her side, and they tell her to shoot straight. Which April does the next day in the car and tells him to get it together.

Cinnamon Sugar hmmm, I’ll try it!

Harrington does a Q&A for the public, and he comes off very well. He apologizes afterward for being a jerk to April and promises to give her some Christmas surprises. Later, he listens to Christmas jazz and tells April that he doesn’t even decorate for the holiday. Then they make cinnamon smores together. Harrington shows her his original journals, and she shows him a book charm her dad gave her. They bond over losing a parent.

They get into an argument again because Harrinton is the worst. April tells him she is sacrificing Christmas with her family to be with him, saving his public image. April tells him that she will always shoot straight with him, and he smiles?

Is this a smile? IDK!

Harrington gets mobed in a public square by fans, judges a contest, and does another press junket. He starts to feel more like himself and less jaded.

April and Harrington have a day with no agenda, so Harrington takes charge. He takes her to his favorite writing spot as a kid. It is a Christmas tree farm and the inspiration for his stories. As are many places and people in town.

There is a Christmas costume dance, because, WHATEVER! Harrington dresses up as a lumberjack, and April is a Christmas Fairy. Harrington is in awe of April’s costume and is impressed at her attention to detail. They slow dance, and April admits she is a superfan of his books. He laughs and calls her a groupie.

Christmas and costumes are going to be a no for me dawg!

Just as things are looking up, April messes up again. She decorated the whole house with his family’s decorations, and he freaked out on her. (Both his parents died, so maybe he is traumatized?) Harrington flies April’s mother to town, and April is getting hella mixed signals.

Bro, you need to chill!

Harrington makes a public appearance at the Annual Mistletoe Christmas Banquet. He goes rogue for his speech, and everyone is horrified. He thanks April for bringing magic back to his Christmas.

Afterward, Harrington apologizes for overreacting, and April is the bigger person and forgives him. They go outside to light off lanterns, and Harrington takes April to a viewing spot. The lantern inspired the Christmas faries from his book. They kiss. The end.

This was a cool shot!

Note/Stray Thoughts

So, was this supposed to be Christmas Harry Potter?

The mood swings of Harrington made his character unappealing.
