Recap/Wine Thoughts
Nia scrolls through her phone while waiting in the pickup line at a school for her daughter. (AKA Hell!) A father/photographer named Rashaad cuts her off in line and picks up his son, Bryce. They have an argument. Nia tries to brush it off. She reminds her daughter, Imani, that her dead father might be in heaven. However, he will not miss the school Christmas Pageant.
When they get home, there is a foreclosure notice on the door. Nia has been having trouble keeping it all together. She wants to make the perfect Christmas for her daughter. This is the first Christmas after a rough year with her husband dying and everything. Nia runs a struggling catering business and stays up late to get ready for a big order from the school.
Nia and Rashaad are late for a church field trip and miss the bus. Nia has to get ready for the catering and tries to call a babysitter. Rashaad and Nia start bickering, and Nia realizes that she has a flat tire. He offers to give her a ride, but they, of course, get stuck in traffic.
After getting dropped off, Nia realized she had accidentally grabbed the wrong phone. It would have been an emergency, but Rashaad and Bryce guessed the passcode on Nia’s phone. (It’s Imani’s birthday.) The kids also grabbed the wrong backpacks, which is less explainable, but we will roll with it.
Rashaad tries to get back to Nia, but the traffic could be better. He is going to miss a high-profile photoshoot that he set up with the Mayor and his family for Christmas. Rashaad asks Nia to get an Uber and fill it out for him. The most important thing for her to remember is to TAKE THE LENS CAP OFF.
Nia and Rashaad try to fill in for one another with their events across town. Rashaad and Bryce will do luncheon catering, and Rasheeda will get the Mayor his photos, edit them, and send them. Both events don’t go according to plan. The Luncheon ladies are served wings, and the Mayor’s photos are blurred.
Gabrielle, Rashaad’s ex-wife, calls and is surprised when Nia answers. In a Lifetime movie, she would be a villain; here she is just trying to get legally separated and co-parent. (She doesn’t have time for the drama.)
After a few more mishaps, Nia and Rashaad finally meet up. It’s good because they have to build up a romance quickly since they have shared so little screen time. They talk about their upcoming meetings. He meets with the divorce lawyer. She meets with the bank. They decide to swap meetings because WHY NOT? The meeting goes surprisingly well for being with the totally wrong person.
It is time for the Christmas pageant, even though the Mayor’s daughter totally sang a whole ass song before. Somehow, this church only has five kids. They sing a bit of Jingle Bells. Then, we are back with the potential couple.
Nia and Rashaad realize what they can learn from one another and appreciate their differences. They get calls with the results of their meetings. Nia gets her loan, and Rashaad gets his divorce! They almost kiss but are interrupted by their damn kids!
It’s time to exchange Christmas gifts! Bryce enters a contest and wins Nia a car. Imani gives Bryce something she bought from a car trunk, and Nia and Rashaad finally kiss. They all hug. The end.
Side Note
This movie would have rocked if they had just swapped bodies for a Christmas Freaky Friday.
The whole not having the leads together most of the movie didn’t work.
