When his international business venture comes to a screeching halt, Todd must stick around Durban, South Africa during the Christmas holiday to close the deal, but not without the Wesley family and all their holiday shenanigans.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts off at a South African Business meeting. Siblings Themba and Gugu have potential partners with Americans Todd and Chirs. The sister is not on board with the plan. She doesn’t trust Americans. Themba asks the Americans to stay in South Africa to earn her trust. Timba promises to fly Todd’s family in for the holidays.
Chris calls his family and asks them to visit Durban, including Jasmine Guy. She thinks he is WILD but is happy the whole family can come. She and her husband want to be naked on the beach. The family, extended cousins, and everyone show up for Christmas in South Africa. Their accommodations are straight luxury.
Gugu and Themba sit down with their parents. Gugu is surprised to learn that the Americans will join them for Christmas. Gugu is not excited. She should have sealed the deal. It would have saved a lot of money for her family’s business.
At a shared meal, they talk about the history of Blak South Africans and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the end of apartheid. Gugu remembers the struggle and wants to hold onto what her family has built. Jasmine Guy sips her wine and listens on respectfully.
Todd and his wife walk about trying to win over GuGu. The wife is actually inspired by Gugu and wants to start her own business—a dance school, perhaps!
Cameron is the last to arrive, and she flirts with a South African hunk. (He is hot.) He invites her to his music studio, and if this were a Lifetime movie, he’d absolutely be a serial killer. He isn’t, and the song they work on together is not bad!
There is a 30th celebration, and everyone gets dressed up in traditional South African attire for a dance performance. The Wesley family takes a photo together and appreciates the experience.
Themba tells Todd that Gugu hasn’t come around even though they are spending a lot of time together. Wesley’s company is hacked, and their customers’ data may have been leaked. Todd has to keep the info from GuGu, or the deal is definitely off. (Todd does let Themba know, so at least he isn’t lying flat out.)
The Wesleys host a family talent show to show the South Africans how Americans do it! Honestly, it is no comparison. I mean, Christmas Karaoke?!? Lame.
Gugu puts a gift under the tree and hears her brother and wife talking about the data breach. She feels lied to, and her suspicions are confirmed. She confronts her brother and accuses him of trying to push her out. Gugu is done and tells Themba to send the Wesleys home immediately.
Todd’s partner finds out that the breach was resolved and that Gugu was behind the hack. Themba is embarrassed by his sister’s actions and apologizes for them. They don’t really see a way forward. Gugu was testing the boys, and they left her out.
Gugu apologizes to her brother and admits she was wrong. The Wesleys are good people and she wants to make things right. Since it is Christmas, Themba forgives her.
Todd is also forgiving and they sign the deal right there on the spot. They are family now! They hug it out.
The families come together for Christmas. Jasmine Guy decides to open a center for the arts back in America. She asks Todd’s wife to run the dance program. (THIS IS VERY RANDOM! I feel like Jasmine Guy just improvised that whole bit, and she has final cut approval.)
Cameron puts on a party for her single release, and everyone dances and has a good time. The end!
Side Note
So many hot guys in this movie.
