Recap/Wine Thoughts
Hacker, Julia, suffers from social anxiety and has been homeschooling while suffering from depression. Her parents are preoccupied with fixing cars or working for the Mayor to notice. While out for a jog, Julia hears a scream in the woods and thinks it could be her friend Nina. (Who is dead.)

On her first day back at school, the popular girls trip Julia and call her a murderer. Julia can’t remember the night Nina died and worries she hurt Nina. Her therapist suggests hypnosis, which is never a good idea. (She never goes back to therapy. Sooo, IDK why these scene was in here)

Julia gets an invitation from an online group called “The Family.” The messages come in relentlessly and start asking Julia to do things like go into the woods alone. Once they earn her trust, they start asking questions like, “What do you hate the most?” (This doesn’t come back either. So many details in this movie don’t add up to anything.)

At school, Julia is still a loser but makes a friend with a shaggy-haired gay boy named Adam. The popular girl tries to bully him for being gay. However, Adam saw the popular girl in the woods with Nina the night she died. (And he seems totally fine with being gay TBH.) Julia still tries to remember what happened and asks Nina’s secret boyfriend, Matt, but still doesn’t have answers. Julia’s dreams are haunted by Nina’s controlling father and an argument that happened before Nina’s death.

Matt works for Julia’s dad, who is also Julia’s cousin. He keeps secrets and clears the history of the work computers, which is suspicious.
A memorial for Nina happens on the year anniversary of her death. I think someone throws an egg at Julia VERY RANDOMLY??!?!? She rushes off and is chased by Adam. Julia tells him that everyone thinks she has something to do with Nina’s death. (It turns out Nina’s body has never been discovered, and Nina is technically just missing.) Adam reassures Julia that Nina probs just ran away.
The Family has been pretty quiet on social media, and for an Instacult, they need to up their engagement. They message Julia and tell her they know she didn’t hurt Nina. Nina’s father thinks differently, beaks into Nina’s house, and accuses Julia of knowing what happened to his daughter. He tells Julia that he will tie her up and question her for days if he has to. Someone from the Family bursts in, knocks out the father, and. calls the police. (ALL IN AN INSTANT AND COMPLETELY UNSEEN?!) They message Julia and tell her they will always have her back.

In return, Julia has to do some things for the Family.
Including:
- Spray painting “$257,225 Girls are missing!”
- Hacking into her mom’s job, increasing her pay, and exposing the Mayor for financial fraud.
- Breaking into the principal’s office and stealing some files.

Adam and Julia follow Matt and find him making out with the popular girl. Then they go to a fancy gala for Julia’s mother. Julia hacks the Mayor’s email. She leaks the story about embezzlement.
Julia is inexplicably grounded by her parents and all her tech is taken away. Matt confronts Julia in her room while she grabs her stuff, and I’m like, is Matt living with them? What? Matt tells Julia that he is only dating the popular girl to get intel about Nina. Matt admits to Julia that he was dating Nina and shares that Nina’s dad wasn’t the only one controlling Nina… JULIA was too. That agree to work together and solve what happened to Nina.

A note from Nina appears on Julia’s bed, telling her to meet in the school library. Nina isn’t there, but she leaves a book called “Women Dominating the World.” (A clue?) A VOODOO DOLL also appears on Julia’s doorstep by the popular girl with a taunting sound clip playing “Julia is a Murder” on a loop. Julia chases her down and the popular girl tells Julia that Nina was dating an older guy. (Nina is a ho.)

The school librarian/teacher/maybe guidance counselor invites Julia over for a check-in. The check-in is at her home, which is against school policy. Julia sees a phone in the teacher’s house and suspects she might be “The Family.” The Family sends a message to Julia to tell her to take Adam out next. Julia is kidnapped and blindfolded.
She finds herself around a bonfire led by the school librarian/teacher/maybe guidance counselor. It is a cult of runaway girls set on emancipating women from the patriarchy. The Family recruited Julia for her hacking skills. They also recruited Nina!!! She is alive and a part of the cult, hiding in a basement.

Also in the basement is Adam. He is tied up and gagged. The Family gives Julia a gun and tells her to shoot him. (Wait, Adam is Gay; shouldn’t he get a pass?!) Julia pulls the gun on the school librarian/teacher/maybe guidance counselor and pulls the trigger. (It has no ammo.)
Nina calls Julia a needy little friend loudly. She is putting on a show. When Nina and Julia are alone, Nina warns Julia that they are in danger and need to leave. The school librarian/teacher/maybe guidance counselor and Julia get into a physical fight, which is definitely not cool!
Out of nowhere, Matt and Julia’s mom show up to get the high schoolers out of there. The police finally show up, having been MIA the entire film. Is everyone arrested and/or saved? I think the building might have been on fire?
Julia goes off to college and leaves everyone behind. She tells Adam to get a life, which is rude!
