The local sheriff of a picturesque mountain lake resort town partners with a burnt-out big-city female detective to help uncover the sinister truth behind a series of annual “accidental” deaths, leading them to believe that a serial killer, hidden among the tourists and residents, may be preying on vacationers each year. Starring Mercedes de la Zerda, and Tom Stevens (2025).
Recap/Wine Thoughts

A blonde woman is tied up in her home in the woods. She lives alone, and a bald man terrorizes her with a knife. He demands to know WHY! He wants to talk about her relationships and patterns with men. Detective Ally Foster bursts into the house and pulls out her weapon. The man is named Caden Hodge, and she has been tracking him for years. He surrenders, and the police arrest him. Alley is put on forced leave and tells her captain it could have been an email.
Ally packs her bags and plans to head home. As she is packing, she gets a call from Caden, who knows all about Ally’s trip out of town. His lawyer has been keeping him in the loop. Ally has a panic attack and then hits the road. (Totally normal!)

In Bear Lake, there is a buzz about Ally’s capture of Caden Hodge. Deputy Brodie runs into Ally at the town restaurant and congratulates her on her police work. He works for Ally’s ex-boyfriend and the current town Sheriff, Roy. A news story about a jail prisoner transfer gone awry comes on the TV. The van ran off the road, and all passengers were presumed dead, even Caden Hodge. Ally is on edge.

Bear Lake is a popular tourist destination and a social media influencer breezes into town and gets annoyed with the locals. Sienna Hartley bumps into Roy’s sister, a redhead named Becca, spills her coffee, and argues with a former marine named Miles. Eve goes on a solo hike and films the whole thing. Someone attacks her by a cliff and throws her over the edge. (That she doesn’t get on camera. OR does she?)
Roy, Brodie, and Ally find the influencer’s body and use their police skills to figure out what happened to the out-of-towner.
A group of college kids is partying at a cabin by the lake, and when Brodie goes to break it up, he is surprised to find Miles there. Miles is PISSED about the tourists and hates them. The college kids go in for the night except for a drunk guy who goes night swimming. The killer is there and sends electrical currents through the dock, killing the hunk. His girlfriend, Eve, reports him missing. Roy finds his body by the pier.

Police search the woods by the crash site and find an inmate jumpsuit. Is Caden Hodge loose in Bear Lake? The chief calls Ally and warns her.

I don’t know what’s up with Becca. Is she the killer? She goes to the site where the social media influencer was found and locates her broken phone. Becca calls Roy and Brodie, but they don’t answer. Brodie also doesn’t answer Roy’s walkie-calls.
Roy is busy investigating with Ally. Someone shoots arrows at them, which turns out to be Miles’s bow and arrow. Someone stole it from his shed. Miles sets up hidden cameras and traps to catch the killer. Meanwhile, Roy asks Brodie to keep an eye on Becca and keep her safe.
Ally packs a bag, makes herself a cup of tea, and is shocked to find Caden Hodge in her house. Roy overpowers Caden and shoots him dead. (No one cares!)

Becca charges Sienna’s phone and looks at the videos. She shows them to Brodie, and as they watch, she is shocked to see that Brodie is the killer. Brodie has to think fast and kidnaps Becca and drags her to the cliff to push Becca over the edge. He tells Becca that he has always felt like second fiddle. Becca fights for her life and screams for help.

Ally and Roy rush up on Brodie, but Miles, with his bow and arrow, takes Brodie out. Knowing he is finished, Brodie throws himself over the cliff.
Ally quits her job in the city and returns to Bear Lake to drink some wine and chill. Sounds nice, actually. I love that she didn’t end up with Roy or take over for Brodie. She is just drinking wine! Good for her.
Stray Thoughts
It took me a while to figure out who was who, relationship-wise. I was surprised Ally didn’t have as much screen time.
