Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Olivia never wanted to be known as just another product of nepotism, but as a rising star in her father’s prestigious firm, that’s exactly how people saw her. Determined to prove herself, she crosses paths with Jonathan Rothfield, a sharp and ambitious heir to a renowned banking dynasty. Together, they find not only a shared drive to succeed but a powerful, intoxicating chemistry that draws them closer. As their careers and ambitions intertwine, Olivia realizes that their combined influence could take them to the very top of the financial world. But when her father finally backs their venture, a chilling secret begins to surface—one that threatens to unravel everything she’s worked for. Will Olivia’s thirst for success blind her to the dark truths that could destroy them all? The closer they get, the more dangerous the stakes become.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Inspired by Actual Events

The movie begins with a woman on the phone with her bank, trying to cancel a wire transfer. Just as she is about to give her mother’s maiden name, someone grabs the blonde from the backseat.

So sad, working in an office

Brittany Underwood, Olivia here, sadly works in an office; Olivia should be celebrating her recent promotion to VP of acquisitions, but she is sad because her brother died. (I think?) Her co-workers Kelly and Liam try to convince their friend to go out and party, but Olivia wants to keep working to prove she isn’t a new baby. (Olivia’s father, Gerald, owns the company Hunts Investments.)

Gerald tells his daughter to go out and enjoy her evening; as she goes home to change, Olivia’s ex-boyfriend, Patrick, shows up at her house and wants to explain why he broke off their relationship. Gerald disapproved of the guy.

I would kill to be able to look so flirty with a martini

Olivia goes to the bar and meets Kelly. She orders a dirty gin martini with two olives (literally my DRANK!) They toast to Olivia’s promotion, and Kelly encourages her friend, telling her she deserves it. A handsome man named Johnathan approaches the bar and orders the same martini. Olivia and Johnathan laugh over the cosmic encounter and hit it off. (Ok, this movie might have been made with me in mind.)

The two flirt over more martinis and ditch the third wheel, Kelly. Olivia tells Johnathan she recently got out of a relationship she thought was serious. He tells her that his relationship status is complicated. (Which, like, come on, bro. Be direct.) When he goes to take a work call, she looks through his wallet to verify he is who he says he is. They end up knowing some of the same business associates and set up a second date.

Shady Ex-Boyfriend

Olivia goes home and pours herself some wine while working on some stuff on her laptop. She quickly changes her mind and, goes to bed and gushes with Kelly about how well her impromptu date went. Unbeknownst to Olivia, Patrick breaks into her home and messes with some files on her laptop. (How Rude, having Patrick be a villain!)

The next morning, Olivia notices her papers are sprawled out but shrugs it off as a drunk girl moment. At work, Kelly stalks Johnathan on social media before date number two and learns Johnathan is well off and a successful businessman in his own right.

Date number two and still no sexy time? Is Olivia a NUN?!

Johnathan makes a last-minute reservation at a fine dining restaurant and bribes the Maître d’ for a private table. When Johnathan picks up Olivia at work, he wows her father with Mark Twain quotes. The date goes well, and Johnathan opens up about his reputable family name. His mother was a waitress who slept with someone from the family, and she was paid off to disappear. Johnathan’s mother recently died, and Olivia shares about her brother’s passing. It connects them on a deeper level.

While leaving the restaurant, a guy named Max recognizes Johnathan and blows his cover about being a gambler. Johnathan says it was a celebrity tournament, and Olivia is impressed. Her family also approves.

Sushi Lunch? Johnathan is my dream guy.

Johnathan brings Olivia SUSHI lunch at work?!?!? Now I’m buggin’ because I love sushi lunch at work. They make out in Olivia’s office, and this relationship is so on. (Please let Alex Trumble play an actual nice guy, for once!) Olivia wants to invest in Johnathan’s charity foundation. He is honored but advises Olivia to avoid mixing business with pleasure.

Down in the lobby, Johnathan gets mistaken for someone named Jack. (This is also meta because Alex Trumble played a character named Jack in another Lifetime movie this week.) Johnathan says that he gets mistaken for people all the time and just has one of those faces.

She looks pissed, but was eating almonds here

Olivia brings Johnathan to meet her mother, Cecilia, and spend some time at her family home. She gives him a tour of the house and they makeout in the bathroom. Olivia’s parents engage in small talk about business ventures until they dive in and ask him about his family. Johnthan really steps in it when he mentions his pilot’s license and love of flying. That is how Olivia’s brother Danny died. Johnathan reminds Gerald of his son, so he invites him to more family functions.

Liam and Kelly start to think Johnathan is too good to be true and ask to sit in on his pitch for his non-profit. They give their stamp of approval, and the partnership moves forward. Cecilia still has her doubts and asks Liam to look into them.

Gerald’s birthday party, by the indoor pool, is crashed by a drunken Patrick. Johnathan steps in and kicks him out. It is an aphrodisiac, apparently, because Olivia and Johnathan makeout on the beach by the fire and then take things to the bedroom.

The following day, Johnathan makes scrambled eggs while Olivia watches on, wearing his button-up. (It is all too perfect, and I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.)

Why is he yelling, but he is still so adorable?

Oh, here it is; Patrick and Johnathan are working together and extorting money from Olivia’s company with a fraudulent charity through an elaborate scheme. When Patrick threatens to come clean, Johnathan kills him.

Liam double-checks Johnathan’s business references and learns that his luxury car and home are rented. Liam tries to warn Olivia, but she thinks he is being overprotective. Liam recruits Kelly to try to convince Olivia that something is off with Johnathan. It goes over much better when Kelly says the same information.

Olivia confronts Jonathan about renting, and he admits that he is cash-poor and that he lied. He promises everything else is true. (So that should be fine!) Johnathan doesn’t want to back off the scheme and doubles down on his plan. The partnership becomes official, and Olivia’s company initiates the back transfer.

He gets tied up and forgotten about

Liam is attacked in the parking garage for uncovering too much. Johnathan accuses Liam of wanting Olivia for himself and then throws him in the trunk of his car. The next day at work, Olivia wonders where Liam is. The tech guy, Jimmy, shows Olivia what he has uncovered.

Jonathan is a dangerous criminal. He killed the blonde at the beginning of the movie, and she was an heiress who sent him a large sum of money. Jonathan’s real name is Jack.

Olivia calls her bank and cancels the wire transfer. She goes to confront Johnathan, who has Liam tied up in his home. When Johnathan sees the transfer has been canceled, her freaks out and tries to cover his ass. Olivia follows him to his workroom and sees the serial killer well. Johnathan/Jack catches her after killing his partner, Max, in broad daylight.

Olivia is forced to drive to her parents’ house, where Jack/Johnathan holds the whole family at gunpoint and ties them up. Jack/Johnathan goes to the home office and demands that they resend the transfer. Gerald works on his laptop but stalls and can’t remember his own password. Then he pulls a gun from his desk to shoot Jack/Johnathan, but Jack/Johnathan removes all the bullets.

Olivia saves her dad and knocks Jack/Johnathan out with a golf club. The police take Jack/Johnathan away and arrest him.

Six months later, Olivia, Kelly, and Liam are crushing business!

STRAY Thoughts

The meet-cute in this movie was my perfect scenario of meeting someone with martinis. Add to that two of my lifetime favorites, and it is Chef’s Kiss.
