Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Jessica is alarmed when her best friend Amanda starts behaving erratically after a mysterious accident. Jessica digs into Amanda’s past and realizes she may not know her best friend at all.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with a brunette locked in a garage, which is handy because she has a shovel to protect herself!

One month earlier, Jessica hosted a celebration for her best friend, Amanda. They have a secret handshake and plan to take a marketing class together at Harvest to improve their social media organization. Is it a six-week marketing class or a six-week brainwashing cult? Commitment, confirmation, and Community. The three big c’s… but they left off cult!

Teaching includes:

“I’m here. I’m AWAKE. I’m going to do great!”

“I’m awake, I can grow, there’s nothing I can’t know”

“I can grow, I invest, I am the harvest.”

The cult leader, I mean, the teacher, tells Jess they can’t miss a class. Which is weird because Amanda doesn’t show up to class. Amanda is found unconscious outside her house. She has had multiple concussions, but doesn’t reme

mber. Amanda’s husband, Mike, is confused by Amanda’s sudden secretive nature.

Amanda angrily yells at Jess for going into her stuff in a green trunk and zones out randomly on walks. Jess is worried about her friend. Jess takes meetings in Amanda’s absence but sees her friend out with a mysterious man. Jess chases after her friend and is almost hit by a car. Did Amanda push her into traffic?

Jess talks with the handsome doctor, who suggests it could be Post-Concussion Syndrome.

Amanda is freaking out at client meetings and making out with guys by trees. Jess is like, “Amanda, are you having an affair?” Amanda says she can’t sleep, eat, or even think straight, and has a full-on panic attack. She eventually agrees to meet with the doctor.

Then Amanda ditches Jess at the office and doesn’t come home to her husband or daughter. The hot doctor doesn’t help Jess look for her friend, but he does take her out to dinner. Jess is drinking water, but it might as well be truth serum because she tells him everything.

Olivia, Jess’s daughter, babysits Amanda’s daughter after Amanda remains MIA. When Amanda tries to break into her own home, Olivia calls the cops. The strange interaction causes a rift between the friends.

The cult symbol appears in chalk on Amanda’s doorstep, and she is emotionally unstable. Then a social media client ends up murdered, and Amanda is a suspect because of her erratic behavior. (Like pulling a knife on Jess at brunch.)

Jessica meets with Feye, the cult leader, who cuts her off from the classes unless she pays 10K. Jess realizes that the Harvest was just a scam pyramid scheme. Then Feye is stabbed and dies with Amanda’s ring in her hand.

Mike tells Amanda that even though she is struggling, he will stand by her. But then she disappears, and the police search for her. A man from Amanda’s past shows up and holds Jessica at knifepoint. Amanda used to be named Sarah, and the man is looking for her.

The friends grab a rock and stop the man from kidnapping them. I’m not sure who he is or why Amanda is Sarah. Apparently, Amanda was in a controlling and manipulative relationship with a man named Ted. Amanda was trying to appease him when he found her, and to keep him away from her friends and family. A bad man took advantage of her.

Amanda throws a party for Jess because that is what you should do for your best friend, who you just put through hell!

STRAY Thoughts

So it may not have been a cult, but Feye’s bangs were something!

The husband in this was JACKED.

  1. Convoluted storyline aside, the two female leads almost looked like the same person! It was hard to keep track of who was who.
