Budding fashion designer, Nicole, relocates to a small lake-side town for the summer to work on her first collection and spend time with her cousin, Amanda. When Amanda turns up dead in mysterious accident, Nicole begins to suspect that something is off.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Pastor Caleb and his blonde, doating wife Jenn are expecting a child and running a congregation. They aren’t the only ones; a red-headed harlot named Phyllis is also pregnant. Someone finds out and murders her in the CVS parking lot and steals her cute pink purse.
Six months later, a divorced fashion designer, Nicole, is taking a summer off and visiting her cousin, Amanda, in the south. While unpacking, Nicole finds love letters between Pastor Caleb and Phyllis. For some reason, Nicole isn’t staying with her cousin and is staying in Phyllis’s house, which is right next to Pastor Caleb and Jenn. (Who isn’t pregnant anymore?)
Hattie, Caleb’s mother, is too involved in her son’s business. Jenn tells her husband to cut the cord! When Pastor Caleb isn’t hanging with his mommy, he is a Peeping Tom looking through Nicole’s windows. (I know she just moved in, but get some curtains!)
Amanda and her husband, Tom, welcome Nicole to their town and urge her to go to church, even though Nicole isn’t really into God. Amanda is not living a devout life either; she cheated on Tom with Pastor Caleb. This man is a whore!
The creepy lurking doesn’t stop, and Jenn catches Pator Caleb sneaking back into the house at 2am. She tells him he is not going to cheat on her again. He denies everything, but Pastor Caleb broke into Nicole’s house to steal the love letters and destroy them.
Pastor Caleb runs outside with his shirt off, and Jenn thinks it is inappropriate because it seems like he loves the attention of all the horny MEs ogling him. (He has a good body! Sue me!)
Amanda and Pastor Caleb come clean about their affair. Lacey, an overly gussied-up member of the congregation, overhears Caleb and blackmails him into having an affair with her! Everyone wants to boink this priest!!! They have sex in the pews, which has to be at least 10 Our Fathers and seventy Hail Marys.
Someone pushes Amanda down some stairs and smashes her head on a rock, killing her. The police and Nicole suspect Tom, the husband, of course. It wasn’t him, and it’s probably Pastor Caleb’s mother, because Lifetime has been pulling the rug out from under us a lot lately.
The detective conducts multiple interviews with the townspeople. As he questions them, the movie flashes back to SCENES we just saw. This movie isn’t even half over, and it is killing time.
Taylor, Nicole’s best friend from New York, comes down and is like, “Umm, hello? Move back to NYC!” Nicole wants to stay for Amanda’s funeral and be there for Tom. (Who cares about Tom? Get out of there, GURL!) Instead, Nicole confronts Pastor Caleb alone and accuses him of infidelity. (Hattie overhears the conversation and is not happy about her son’s habitual cheating, just like his father.)
Back to Jenn, who is pregnant again and has the ugliest flesh-colored French manicure I’ve ever seen. Jenn confronts Lacey, but finds Hattie standing over her dead body. Hattie has been trying to save her son’s image and marriage. Jenn is horrified and tells Hattie that she has lost her mind. Hattie says with God’s guidance, nothing can go wrong!
At an award ceremony, Jenn tries to warn Pastor Caleb about his mother. It is too late because Hattie finds Nicole snooping in her son’s office and knocks her unconscious. Then she steals a knife from the reception to finish the job. Hattie holds Jenn at knifepoint and screams at Caleb for betraying her like his father. She killed his father, too! Hattie is really on one.
The detective shoots her, and as Hattie dies, she tells Pastor Caleb that he is “such a disappointment.”
Three months later, Nicole and Tom spread Amanda’s ashes in the lake. Jenn moves to Alaska, and Pastor Caleb is charming the pants off another congregation.
STRAY Thought
Was it just me, or did the church doors look like Red doors with duct tape crosses on them?
