Kate takes a job as a live-in tutor at a secluded Scottish estate for a mother and daughter who’ve escaped domestic abuse. But when she discovers the previous au pair mysteriously disappeared, Kate becomes embroiled in the family’s deadly secrets.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts with someone running through the woods and being knocked in the face with a shovel on a dock. They drowned. RIP!

Teacher, Miss Davies, is leaving school for a new adventure in Scotland, of all places. Kate will be a private tutor for a 15-year-old in a castle!

Cue some Celtic music, with lots of scenic shots of Scotland. It’s a travel montage! Kate arrives at the mansion and is greeted by a redhead named Annie with a gun. She is shooting for sport because they are that rich. Their house isn’t a home, it’s an ESTATE! (With 24hr camera surveillance.)

Hannah is the teen, and she doesn’t want a governess. So, instead of teaching, Kate walks the grounds and meets a man named Fraser. He has an accent, so put on. He is lucky he is hot.
The last tutor left under mysterious circumstances and was probably Shovel Girl. Hannah’s mom tells Kate that her ex-husband is dangerous and that they are actually in hiding. (Which explains the intense security system and the homeschooling.) Hannah is also into horses and gets mad when her mom sells them.

Kate finds someone in the horse stables, and he hits her arm with a hammer and runs away. Fraser helps her recover with a hot toddy and shares that he grew up in foster care and got a job as a groundskeeper. Kate wants to go to the police, but Annie doesn’t want a public record of her location.
While boating with Hannah, Kate finds Olivia’s phone. She goes to tell Annie, only to find her making out with Fraser and plotting. Kate asks about Olivia’s disappearance, and Annie advises Kate to mind her own business and stay on the grounds.
Kate has a bad feeling and calls her friend Paula from back home. She shows Paula a picture of Olivia from the cellphone, and it is not just the last tutor, Olivia is KATE’S SISTER!?!?!??! Kate intentionally took the job to look into her sister’s disappearance/death. Good plot twist.

Next, Kate goes to a pub and meets with Mark, Olivia’s boyfriend. He helps her get into Olivia’s phone and figure out what REALLY happened to her sister. Olivia was working with Hannah’s dad, Dan. He is looking for Sophie and says Annie is a liar. Kate calls him and sets up a meeting to find out the truth.
Mark is killed before the meeting can take place, and it is Fraser who kills him in a parking lot. (At Annie’s request, probably!) Well, kind of, because Fraser killed Mark, thinking it was Dan.
Kate decides to tell Hannah the truth, and they find Olivia’s things locked in a trunk in the horse stables. Hannah learns her real name is Sophie, and her fake name, Hannah, is after a baby who died.
Annie learns of Dan’s death and arranges a celebration dinner. Annie confronts Kate about lying about her motives for coming to Scotland. Kate is tied up in the horse stables, while Hannah is locked in her room.

Just as Fraser is about to shoot Kate in cold blood, she uses a horseshoe to defend herself and free herself from her restraints. Kate watches a RANDOM news story on her phone instead of calling the police, and we learn that Annie is a twin of a psycho named Sarah, who “died in a fire.” Sarah posed as Annie and kidnapped Hannah to replace the baby she lost ten years ago.
Meanwhile, Dan shows up to rescue his daughter. Annie asks to explainherself over some tea, drugged with Ketamine. Kate tries to stop Annie/Sarah and race around the estate. While they do, Annie/Sarah talks through MORE backstory, which only confuses me further. Pretty much the evil twin took over the nice one’s life and killed her in a fire. While she is talking, Annie/Sarah loses her footing and falls over the banister to her death.

The police arrive on the scene, and Kate goes back to teaching in America! Sophie/Hannah is one of her newest students.
STRAY Thought
The initial twist was intriguing, but once we threw in twins, the movie lost me.
I really like this lead actress.
