A principal finds a kidnapped boy during vacation and helps return him to his father.
Recap/Wine Thoughts

The move begins with Nicole being arrested. (Played by this actress who is in a lot of Lifetime movies, but IDK her name. Sorry Laurie! )

Rewind to Nicole taking her son to a vacation in a beach town. He has a Gen Z mullet with swoop Bieber bangs, and Nicole makes fun of it at the jump, so I’ll let it slide. Casey is embarrassed by his mom and sad because his parents recently divorced.

Nicole goes to the pool to drink pinacoladas and her son gets in a fight with a bully in the pool. The mother and son are almost kicked out, but Tom and Laurie, the parents of the bullied kid, tell the manager to let them stay. Tom is a fitness influencer and has pull. Nicole gets an odd feeling, as if she remembers their son, Jacob, since she is the school principal. (Nicole’s New Year’s resolution is to stay on her toes.) When Nicole brings up recognizing Jacob Laurie
Henry is Nicole’s cop friend, who was never a fan of Nicole’s ex. Henry and Nicole dated in college before she ended up marrying his best friend.

Jacob is photo-sensitive and can’t be in a picture, and it triggers a memory. Nicole finds a missing photo and swears it is Jacob, but his name is REALLY Ben. When she brings it up to her GROWN-ASS CHILD, Casey gets jealous and acts like a total Brat.
Rex, Ben’s father, begs for the public to find his son, and Nicole stalks him on social media, which he has made totally public. Which might have led to Ben being kidnapped TBH. Nicole almost reaches out, but she stops herself.
What she doesn’t stop herself from being is nosey AF. She follows Tom and Jacob downstairs after Jacob gets in trouble for getting into the pool. Tom adjusts Jacobs color contacts!!!!

Henry is on the case because he is a cop, and he meets with Rex, who is understandably cautious about getting his hopes up. They set up a chance encounter, but Rex can’t ID his son. Well, he CAN verify it is his son, but he can’t do anything without tipping off Jacob’s kidnappers. Nicole steals a straw from Jacob’s drink to run a DNA test on Henry.

Laurie and Tom catch on and hold her at gunpoint and take her from their room. They admit that Jacob is not their son and tell her to call off the search, or they will get her fired as school principal. So, Nicole backs her bags and takes Casey to a beach house for a vacation redo.

Then the DNA results come back, and it is a MATCH! Henry goes to the hotel to save Ben/Jacob, but Laurie and Tom have a plan: pin the whole thing on Nicole, somehow. Rex has a freakout, and the police want to know if he recognizes the kidnapper, but he doesn’t, or at least that is what he says.

Nicole and her Mullet son are surprised to see Laurie and Tom in their beach house rental after posting a selfie with their location. Laurie and Tom tell them that they are keeping Jacob/Ben safe. Laurie was Ben’s child psychologist and learned that Rex killed his wife, and Ben saw what happened, but without the evidence, they couldn’t prove anything.
Nicole doesn’t know what to believe and calls Henry on her Apple Watch. While she holds the adult captive. Casey and his mullet get the kid out of the house while Rex, Laurie, and Tom fight it out.

Rex takes out Tom and Laurie, proving that gays can be bad guys, too. Just as Rex is going to shoot Nicole, Casey and his mullet save her.

One year later, Henry and Nicole are in LOVE, and Casey and his Mullet are there too. They are raising Jacob/Ben, because why not?
STRAY Thought
Also Known As: The Boy by the Pool
Why was Tom a good actor?
Am I crazy for thinking that Rex should have still had his son, even if he is a murder suspect? I mean, his family or the wife’s family could have taken care of him, right?

I actually liked this movie but the one glaring thing among many that bothered me was why would those two “parents” reach out and call attention to themselves in the first place? They went out of their way to contact someone to thank them for protecting their “son” from being bullied. Had they stayed in the shadows none of the rest of this movie ever happens. At least not in the near future.
