Synopsis (via Lifetime)
When recorded audio from a murder starts playing on the speakers from an unknown device, Kate doesn’t know if it’s real or a prank.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie begins with someone being murdered while washing their face, GREAT. New fear unlocked.
Cut to failed chef Kate, who is trying to get her mojo back after a failed restaurant opening and a pivot to home chef. Kate grows fresh herbs in her garden and has a creepy neighbor. That isn’t going to stop her from flyering later at night for her “Supper Club.” Even after someone in a hoodie tears them down.
This movie has VERY little dialogue, so we get a food tasting montage. I’m not even sure the chef’s name is Kate. She makes an impassioned speech about connecting through food and through Bluetooth to her music speaker. The speaker interrupts the dinner with the shouting and screaming of someone being murdered.
Kate and her friend accuse the diners of being “sick-os,” but the party continues. Kate calls Smart Home customer service, and they tell her to plug and unplug the device.
The police arrive the next day to investigate a murder down the hall. Kate tells them about the strange sounds. A forensic investigator named Dale offers to take a look at her device and router to see if he can trace the interception. I’m not sure how that works, but it is okay because Daniel doesn’t know what a Supper Club is. Dale invites himself to the next one, leaves, and the screams continue to play over the speaker.
Kate and her BFF, Julia, decide to go talk to the neighbors within range of the speakers and land on a speaker with the creepy neighbor. He has a ring camera and works in cybersecurity. Keith doesn’t make sense motive-wise. Kate considers the fact that she might have a stalker, and is really self-centered, actually.
In the middle of the night, someone uses tech to unlock Kate’s front door. So, she barricades herself inside and rounds up all her kitchen knives. Then the thermostat turns up to 86!!! Having a smart home is not working out so well for her.
Daniel comes over again to search the place and finds a recorder in the house. Kate is convinced it must be one of her co-workers since they were inside her apartment. Even still, Kate locks herself in her apartment for months and unplugs all her appliances.
Kate opens up to Daniel while working in the garden; they both come from broken homes. Kate decides to look into the girl whose life ended while washing her face. She was experiencing the same tech glitches before her death.
The creepy neighbor invites Kate into his apartment, and she reluctantly agrees. He has a guy’s apartment, and Kate is disappointed that he doesn’t have a serial killer wall with cut-out pictures of her.
Kate gets a call on her cellphone after barricading herself in her house. When the caller tells her she is not alone, Kate hyperventilates until she passes out. Kate doesn’t handle stress well!
Kate invites all her suspects to the supper club in hopes of recreating the spooky session from last time. The playlist is much more serene and full of royalty-free songs! Then the spooky sounds start playing, and Daniel can’t determine who killed the facewashing girl.
A storm rolls in, and Daniel and Kate are left alone. He talks about loneliness, then plays audio from his phone. Daniel says he saw one of Kate’s flyers and became obsessed with her, using his tech savviness for bad, not good.
Kate pulls out one of her kitchen knives and fights Daniel until the neighbors burst in and stop him from killing again. The police arrive and take Daniel away.
Kate hosts a dinner party without stalker interruptions this time. Supper Club is a hit! Yay?

By any chance does this have an alternate title “Someone’s Always Watching?” Just wondered because that is all I can find in my cable guide for Sunday evening

It is not the original title because even the Lifetime website has it listed as “Deadly Sign-In” even though they were advertising it on TV as “Someone’s Always Watching”. It’s listed on IMDb and TheMovieDB … as “Deadly Sign-In”. All of that leads me to believe that “Deadly Sign-In” was the original title and they changed it for broadcast, as they so often do with their movies. I can’t believe they would have changed it from “Someone’s Always Watching” to “Deadly Sign-In” and expect anyone to find it online, but either way, if you’re trying to find information about it you have to search “Deadly Sign-In”.
The promo gives it another title “somebody’s always watching” but online it’s “Deadly Sign In”? I’m so confused. But I prefer Deadly Sign In more. It’s a simple title and not too over the top. And honestly we need to bring back the ‘Deadly’ titles. Hopefully that’s the one they’ll go with

Patrick, the film just appeared on my cable Lifetime feed. It looks like a slick production with many high-tech special effects.
