High School Lover (2017 Lifetime)
Synopsis (via Lifetime)
17-year-old Kelley falls in love with Christian, an older actor; her father tries to intervene before the relationship becomes a dangerous obsession.
James Franco is playing director Rick Winters. He is on set with his teenage daughter, Kelley, who is also a film buff. Her stepmother, Samantha, picks up Kelley at the studio. Kelley and her little sister, Rachel, don’t like Samantha, and they are basically like, “You’re not my mother.”
Kelley and her best friend, Allison, head off to school. Kelly steals her stepmother’s jumpsuit. They run into their jock friend Larry and talk about boys. Then they plan and then later sneak into an industry party where they drink and dance. Christian Booth, a famous actor, invites them to an after-party. Everyone hooks up with someone, except Allison. Poor Allison. Kelley gives Christian her number after making out with him on a balcony.
The next morning, Christian texts her that he wants to “kidnap her,” and Kelley agrees to meet up with him at a concert. The only problem is her dad, James Franco, is going with her because she is grounded for partying the night before. Kelley sneaks backstage and meets Christian. He introduces her, Allison, and Larry to the artist. They are very impressed—James Franco dad dances during the concert, which is adorable. He is less thrilled that his daughter and her friends have been handing out with Christian, who is 26.
Christian continues to pursue Kelley. He visits her at school and takes her for a “romantic walk” on the beach. Kelley can’t see that he is possessive and using his influence and money to get what he wants, which apparently is an underage girl. He picks her up in a limo and then takes her on a private plane where she gives him a BJ?!? Gross. Why did we need to see this! The romance doesn’t last long when Kelley sees he has a girlfriend in a tabloid magazine.
Kelley wallows in her sorrow and ignores a bouquet of flowers Christian sends her. When Kelley doesn’t show up at a party, Christian breaks a glass with his bare hands in anger. The next day he picks her up at school on her motorcycle, and she forgives him.
Christian crashes Kelley’s sister’s beach birthday party and is surprised to see Samantha there. They used to date! Samantha warns James Franco that Christian is bad news and suggests he step in. James Franco tells Christian to stop seeing his daughter, which only makes Christian double down having sex with her in his condo. He tells her that he is falling in love with her.
Christian texts Kelley constantly and insists on knowing where she is at all times. He even gets jealous of her gay friend Larry and calls Kelley a slut for wearing his lettermen jacket. Christian attacks Larry and Allison creating a scene. Kelly tells Christian that she never wants to see him again.
James Franco calls Christian to tell him to stop contacting his daughter. Christian responds by sending a sex tape of Kelley. Then he threatens Samantha on a beach jog. He then crashes James Franco’s set and causes a scene there. James Franco says he is going to kill him in front of a lot of people. These parents need to call the police.
It is prom, because, why not! Christian shows up and screams that he can’t live without her. The teachers all looked confused AF.
Finally, we get to the typically Lifetime ending. Christian breaks into Kelley’s house and her with Samantha hide from him while on the phone with a bored/rude 911 operator. Christian grabs Kelley but is stopped by an enraged James Franco. The two men punch one another, but it is Kelley who stabs Christian in the stomach. Then Samantha hits him with a crowbar. The police arrive as The family huddle on the front doorstep. The end!
