Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Inspired by the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol,” shrewd money manager Alexis Taylor (Toni Braxton) gets the holiday visit of a lifetime. A self-proclaimed workaholic who “humbugs” love, Alexis ends up embracing the spirit of Christmas when her past, present, and future collide, forcing her to risk the one thing money can’t buy: her heart.
Thoughts
Toni Braxton is a workaholic. She comes to work and sees her employees doing a secret santa gift, which she shuts down IMMEDIATELY. Christmas is a waste of time and money. More surprises are in store for Toni Braxton, her boyfriend has some gifts for their trip to Bali. Toni Braxton tells him that she she can’t do Bali, or them. She breaks up with him. Apparently this is a thing she does, gets a boyfriend and breaks up with them before Christmas. (I’m taking that note Toni Braxton). She also shuts down the Christmas party because they haven’t met their numbers and everyone will be expected to work on Christmas and is cutting their Christmas bonuses.
Toni Braxton is in her office looking at an ipad while typing with one hand on a computer. Large screens are behind her with the stock exchange numbers. Her cute assistant pops in with a family photo and we learn Toni Braxton’s parents died. The screens flicker and a ghost image of her mom appears. Toni Braxton thinks she is tripping and goes downstairs to steal some wine and cookies.
Toni Braxton’s driver Justin, is driving her home and takes a detour to go see Christmas lights. Toni Braxton sees her mom again and is for real freaking out and is all “I’m not crazy!” which is what crazy people say. FYI.
Back at her amazing condo, Toni Braxton is finally away from all the holiday cheer. She open a bottle of wine and gets some leftover Chinese while sad sad music plays.
Justin is with his family and is very happy. He puts family first and makes sure that they are getting taken care of. They want him to tell Toni Braxton to stop working for her and start dating her. They are all up in his business.
Toni Braxton wakes up in the middle the night to discover her ghost mom messing with her cellphone and putting on perfume.Toni Braxton tells her that she will call the police. Toni Braxton’s mom proves that she knows her daughter by explaining the food she likes and doesn’t like. (Toni Braxton loves mexican but not pizza or Hamburgers.) Toni Braxton’s mom is here because Toni Braxton is in trouble. She needs to let love in her life again.
They hold hands (Toni Braxton is like are you Christmas Caroling me?) are are magically transported to Toni Braxton’s old college apartment.Toni Braxton and her mom watch as the past plays out, In that apartment is Steve (her ex-fiance) and young Toni Braxton (Played by old Toni Braxton). They are expecting her parents and are going to surprise them with engagement news. Too bad her are in a tragic accident. At the hospital Toni Braxton runs into young Justin and spills her purse. Toni Braxton learns that her parents died on Christmas and when her fiance tries to comfort her, she runs away and pushes him away.
Toni Braxton and her mom have breakfast together and reminisce. THen they put on fancy dresses for the present. They do more hand holding magic and are transported to…. Mark, her ex boyfriends apartment.
Mark is buying a engagement ring for Toni Braxton. Toni Braxton tries to stop him, buy saying “Don’t do it” really slowly. Then they flash to Mark drowning his sorrows at a bar. Next, they go to Toni Braxton’s coworkers house who is celebrating with his family but is losing his house because of the bonuses getting cut. The family toasts to Toni Braxton because…. IDK.
Now in Christmas future, Toni Braxton has both her parents showing her what is to come. Toni Braxton is at her office, only it isn’t her office anymore. Old Toni Braxton (played by Toni Braxton) is on her death bead because she “didn’t eat right or sleep well.” She has a nurse take care of her and no visitors. Instead of gaining some introspection, Toni Braxton blames her parents for leaving her.
The next morning, Toni Braxton finds a copy of Christmas Carol and learns all the lessons her parents were trying to teach her. Toni Braxton puts on a red dress and is very thankful for everyone. She even listens to Christmas music in the car.
Toni Braxton heads over to her co-workers house and tells him that he is promoted and gives him his Christmas bonus and then some. He is like, this is too much and is very nice to her about it but she tells him it is what he deserves.
At work, Toni Braxton gives everyone their bonuses. (Well, the ones that came back.) She sends them all home. Gee, Thanks, Toni Braxton.
Toni Braxton makes her driver Justin take a selfie with her in front of a Christmas tree. She then makes him take her to go see her ex-fiance, Steve. He is a minister and doing fine. Toni Braxton apologizes Her gives her a Christmas ornament from their college days. Awwww.
On her way to Bali, Toni Braxton stops by Marks house to break up with him again. While talking to Mark, Toni Braxton realizes that she is in love with JUSTIN!
Justin takes Toni Braxton to his house, which is the decorated house from earlier. It is decked out. He tells Toni Braxton that he is starting his own business driving 100 cars and he gives her a Christmas ornament too. They hang it on the tree together while her ghost parents watch on.
We get a flash back to every time we’ve ever seen Toni Braxton and Justin together.
They kiss and he says it was worth the wait.
