Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Lifetime’s first-ever Christmas sequel to last year’s hit movie, Merry Liddle Christmas, Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding once again follows Jacquie Liddle (Kelly Rowland) as she and Tyler (Thomas Cadrot) try to plan their perfect destination Christmas wedding. Naturally, Jacquie’s plans go awry when her boisterous family intervenes in her planning, and her snooty wedding planner quits in protest. While nothing goes as initially planned, Jacquie and Tyler get a Christmas wedding more memorable than they could have ever dreamed.
Thoughts
Ms. Kelly Rowland gives us a quick recap of Jacquie and Tyler’s whirl-wind year of romance. It is now two days before the wedding, and her gay wedding planner, Garrett, is taking care of everything. Tyler’s kids Josh and Coco, grew up face and aren’t as precious as last time. They are now too cool for school and giving Kelly Rowland the cold shoulder because she will be their step-mother. Tyler’s parents are staying in the hotel and are a little more traveled than the Liddles.
Kelly Rowland’s parents arrive with a car full of gifts. Kiara (dressed to the nines) shows up too, this time sans dog; she is still EXTRA tho, don’t worry. She is the maid of honor and has already slept with the best man, Chris. Julian and Treena are not far behind, arriving with their adorable daughter, Ava. (Who they pawn off on her grandparents.)
The sisters enjoy mimosas while subtly shading each other, the way only sisters can. I love their loving relationship and genuine connection. Julian and Treena attempt to enjoy a romantic quality alone time but end up face-timing their toddler, who is staying with Julian’s parents.
Garrett, the wedding planner, turns out to be more high maintenance than the family. He gets into an argument with Kiki, and rudely tells her to mind her business. Kelly Rowland tries to mediate the situation and asks her sister to leave Garrett alone. Garrett is also SAVAGE to other members of the family when they comment on anything he is doing.
The mishaps start rolling in. Kelly Rowland runs into her wedding cake in a beautiful white sweater and breaks the wedding topper. It is the final straw for Garrett. He quits as the wedding planner and takes everything with him. The family bands together and vows to pull off the Christmas wedding. Each family member steps up to help in whatever way they can.
The family bakes cookies, build snowmen, and meddles in each other business. It is rare in a TV movie for the B and C storylines to be engaging, but this movie does an excellent job balancing everything. I’m equally invested in Kiara and Chris’s budding romance, Julian and Treena adding the spice back to their marriage, and Jacquie and Tyler managing wedding stress and miscommunications.
Tyler gives Kelly Rowland a book with something he loves about her on every page. It is so sweet. The best part about this scene is wearing wild makeup that her stepdaughter put on her as practice for the wedding look.
Meanwhile, Kiki is drinking red wine and dancing with a wedding dress by a candle. She lights it on fire and then douses it out with the RED WINE. (OMG, what is wrong with this sister.) Tyler and Kelly Rowland decide to postpone the wedding.
The family is not too discouraged and play Pictionary. It is good old fashion family fun. Then the sisters have a spa day while wearing fluffy robes and afterward do a Santa Baby song and dance routine for their Santa hat-wearing guys. (It is the first time Kelly Rowland has gotten to dance in the center of a musical dance trio.) They all drink Absolute Vodka. #Ad
Kelly Rowland and Tyler ride in a horse-drawn carriage and think they made the right choice postponing the wedding even if the minister didn’t get the memo and shows up anyway.
It is Christmas morning, and the family opens gifts while drinking mimosas. Kelly Rowland’s parents are going to PARIS, FRANCE! They are so sweet. Everyone takes a family picture, and the Christmas angel falls off the tree. Tyler and Kelly Rowland disappear and then text everyone to meet them outside for a surprise wedding!
Kelly Rowland shows up in a severely altered dress (Thanks Kiki.) and walks down the aisle while her family watches on in their PJs. The vows are short and sweet so we can get to that kiss! Everyone applauds, and then they jump the broom.
The family gest dolled up for the wedding reception, and Debbie Morgan gives an impassioned speech welcoming Tyler to the family. Kiara watches on with Chris and decides that they should give their relationship a shot. They kiss under the mistletoe, and Kelly Rowland tosses her the bouquet. Cue a family dance party/soul train. So much joy here.
It is December 26th, and everyone is departing from the hotel. Kelly Rowland and Tyler are going on a Bali Honeymoon.
Side Note
Directed by Sharon Lewis and written by Andrea Stevens. Both talented females in the industry.
