Synopsis (via Lifetime)

A high school girl’s spirits are crushed as she suffers through a humiliating “Cheerleader Initiation Week,” but her dreams aren’t the only thing in danger when another girl on the squad turns up dead, and when she disappears herself, her mom will have to rush to save her. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with Lifetime Cutie, Grace Patterson as Cindy, running out of a house being chased by someone,

Cut to Grace and her clumsy friend Ally practicing cheerleading and enjoying lemonade made by Grace’s mom Meg. (Who relives her glory days in high school,) The mother and Daughter openly talk about hazing, which is strange. Parents shouldn’t be cool with hazing.

At a diner, Cindy and Meg enjoy some ice cream while Cindy goes over the stats of all the players and cheerleaders. She impressed the quarterback, Brent. A nerdy boy named Evan seems jealous of their budding relationship.

The first day of cheerleading practice happens, and MAN, those cheerleaders, are RUDE. They threaten to cut girls from the squad if they miss practice or tell anyone about the hazing. Then the football team sprays the new girls with fire extinguishers.

THEN LISA (a new cheerleader) TURNS UP DEAD IN THE LOCKER ROOM SHOWERS.

The death doesn’t stop the hazing, and the new girls are sprayed with the misting spray of a hose while they cheer. Ms. Parker catches them hazing and tells the girls that she will shut them down if they take things “too far.” (She is brutally attacked in the parking lot after school and gets her car stolen.)

These Queen Bee bitches continue to haze and do things like, make the new girls crabwalk and only say “Buzz” for a day. Then the new girls are forced to walk through the woods at night.

Ally tries to reason with her teammates and tells them that something is off, but no one will listen to her, not even when they are almost run off the road by the stolen car.

When Kylie and Jessie are forced to chug honey, everyone cheers them on. The new girls earn an invite to a house party at Captian Heidi’s house. Something happens at the party that causes Jessie to quit and Kylie to be promoted to Queen Bee. Jessie goes missing, and an overly gruff detective accuses Cindy of knowing more than she is letting on. Cindy and Ally decide to figure out what the hell is going on.

Meg shows back up in the movie and grounds Cindy, just as Cindy was going to do something other than being adorable. Meg sits outside of Cindy’s door to make sure she doesn’t go out. Allison decides to go it alone and do some snooping at the Cheer Captian’s house. Ally gets cut from the squad because the cheerleaders catch her lurking outside the home.

Cindy and Becca are left alone as recruits.

Jessie is found dead in an apparent hit and run. Ms. Parker’s stolen car was used to commit the crimes. Then the nerd kid drops some files after almost getting run over in the parking lot too. Mrs. Parker sees her key chain, and he is now a suspect.

Finally, it is Cindy and Becca’s turn to be wined and dined at the Cheer Captian’s party. The cheerleaders drug the girls, but Cindy must know she is in a Lifetime Movie because she passes on the champagne. She still feels sick and Brent shows up to take her to the upstairs bedroom. The football boys, Brent and Lenny, attempt to rape Cindy, and the Cheer Captian is fully aware. It happened to her, so it must happen to everyone after her. It is tradition.

Brett, of course, turns out to be the one taking out the cheerleaders. To cover up their secrets and ensure they get into college. Ally and Meg rush to find Cindy before it is too late.

Cindy makes a run for it, and we are back at the beginning of the movie. The jocks and cheerleaders drag a bruised and battered Cindy back into the house. Meg and Ally show up at the home and try to rescue Cindy.

Allyson uses her crutches as a weapon, which is badass. (she was hit by a car at some point or something.) Meg grabs the Lifetime fav kitchen knife and slowly walks around the house to find her daughter. She gets into an altercation with Brent and throws him over the staircase, making him fall to his death. Then Meg unties Cindy and another cheerleader named Amber. The Cheer Captian, Fiona, pulls a gun on Meg, but Meg wrestles it out of her hands as the police arrive.

Cindy cries in her mother’s arms and wishes she would have said something sooner, which is sad.

Cut to a football game? The cheerleaders do a routine, and Meg is proud of the daughter. The end! (I’m not sure how this school continues to have an athletic program after its athletes were convicted rapists.)

Side Note

Meg runs the HOT MESS Boutique?

The date rape storyline was rough, especially because the cheerleadesr were enabling it.

  1. Have loved Allison McAtee ever since she played a lesbian temptress in the indie film “Bloomington”. Grace Patterson is the latest in a long line of Lifetime’s talented Texans.
