This holiday, the Liddles have much to be merry about! Jacquie Liddle (Rowland) and her husband, Tyler (Cadrot), are preparing for the arrival of their first baby. Meanwhile, Jacquie’s sister Treena (Williams) and her husband, Julian (Callica), are thinking about adopting a baby themselves, and spirited, fashionista sister Kiera’s (Webb) relationship with Chris (Witte) is heating up. With their family expanding in ways they could never have expected, the Liddles are headed for a crazy Christmas filled with merry mayhem and lots of love and laughter.(2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Kelly Rowland is VERY pregnant and looking forward to a quiet Christmas with Tyler and their JUST little family. That plan quickly goes out of the window when the Liddle family’s rental house’s plumbing bursts moving everyone back into Kelly Rowland’s house.
Kiara and Christ show up. They are both stressed because she is planning a surprise baby shower for Kelly Rowland. He is planning on proposing.
Treena and Julian announce that they are adopting a little boy and name him Marcus after Julian’s father. (Julian was adopted too.)
We quickly learn that Kiara is pregnant, and the sisters celebrate together. Then they have a family pillow fight. Treena (not so) subtly asks Chris if he wants kids, and he says yes… for the carpool lane. Kiara acts strange around Chris because she isn’t ready to tell him about the baby. Chris picks up on the vibes and thinks she might not want him to propose.
Since Kiara is busy with morning sickness. The men plan Kelly Rowland’s baby shower over a basketball game. They come up with NACHO BAR!
Kelly Rowland is worried that she won’t be ready to be a parent when the baby comes, and her father gives her some sage advice. He shares that he had the same feelings, but everything just fell into place once she was born. It is a beautiful moment, well-acted by Kelly Rowland specifically.
The baby shower goes off without a hitch, and Chris proposes to Kiara. It seems like the Liddle family curse has been lifted; things are not going awry as they have in the past.
Christmas morning, Kiara announces her pregnancy, and the family celebrates. Kelly Rowland asks her mother (via Facetime) for some parenting advice. She tells her daughter to lead with love.
Treena and Julian find out that their adoption has fallen through, and they are understandably heartbroken. They are asked to adopt a seven-year-old child named Owen instead by the adoption agency. They later decide to adopt the child to give him a better life.
The kids befriend a grumpy neighbor. (Which would typically turn into a stalker neighbor in a Lifetime movie… but this is not that type of Lifetime movie.) They enjoy a family lunch and then do a dance routine. Kelly Rowland goes into labor and is rushed to the hospital.
With her husband, sisters, and mother on Facetime, Kelly Rowland delivers a baby boy… and a surprise girl! They have surprise twins.
The movie ends with a family portrait with the new babies for their first Liddle Christmas. The are already planning the next Liddle family vacation.
Side Note
Pour it all the way up for this one. The chemistry between the actors is a joy to watch. I could watch this family year-round… for a series, maybe?
Minority Report: The cast features black actors in all the major roles as well as POC actors in supporting roles. Bravo!
