Perpetually single Sawyer (Payton) makes a fake wedding registry, hoping a shopping spree with a scan gun will be the ultimate retail therapy. But when the registry is discovered and the whole town throws her a surprise bridal shower, she’s too embarrassed to tell the truth. Instead, she finds a fake fiancé to help her navigate through the lies and holiday festivities. However, as real feelings develop between Sawyer and her fake fiancé, they may turn into the real deal after all. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Sawyer is a successful doctor in a woman’s clinic; her partner is retiring and worries that Sawyer’s work-life balance will suffer if she takes over the practice. He will announce the new boss at the company holiday.
While shopping with her co-worker Jules, Sawyer is talked into making a fake registry to blow off steam. Sawyer goes through the store and scans everything.
While checking on a pregnant patient, Hilary, Sawyer meets her handsome brother, Landon. Landon is a veterinarian and is set up with Sawyer by his sister. They agree to go to coffee.
The word of the registry gets out, and Sawyer’s friends throw her a surprise party, including her mother, Margaret. (Marie Osmond.) They all have many questions, and Swayer doesn’t have the heart to tell them the truth. She just kind of rolls with it and then fakes an emergency to come up with what to do.
Sawyer runs into her ex-boyfriend on their coffee date, who mistakes Landon for her fake fiance “Joshua Gotaway.” . They roll with it, and word gets out fast. Landon offers to help Sawyer by explaining the situation to her mother. When they arrive, Margaret thinks they are trying to tell her that they are pregnant and is excited to be a grandma. The lies just keep coming and coming. Landon just tells Sawyer not to fight it and go along with it while in town. Then once his sister has the baby, he will break off the engagement and appear like the bad guy. Sawyer agrees to the plan.
Ice Castles happen, and it is AMAZING. Sawyer and Landon go out with her friend, walk through ice caverns, and slide down ice slides. Sawyer and Landon share an awkward little peck. Sawyer promises that she is a much better kisser.
Dr. Timothy meets Landon and offers Sawyer the practice because she finally seems to have a work-life balance.
Sawyer gives Landon a real shot, and they go out on a proper date. He makes fun of her ordering a Salsbery steak. They ask one another why they are single and talk about their ex’s. It seems like they are a good match, and they end the date with a proper kiss.
Sawyer’s friend, Camille, is also getting married, and they try on wedding dresses together.
It is the night of the Christmas party, and Dr. Timothy is just about to announce Sawyer is his successor. Hillary finds the wedding registry, storms into the event, and calls Sawyer a liar. Then she goes into labor. Sawyer delivers the baby and then explains the whole rouse to her family and friends. Her mother and Dr. Timothy are hurt and disappointed.
Landon leaves town, and Sawyer realizes that she didn’t really tell Landon how she feels. Dr. Timothy and her mother both encourage Sawyer to follow her heart. She also still gets the practice.
Sawyer goes to Landon’s vet clinic and tells him how she really feels. They decide to make a fresh start. They passionately kiss and plan their cat names.
