When Sam (Kramer), the designer behind a popular home renovation show, returns to her hometown during the holidays to help renovate the Bell Harbor Inn, she gets paired with Coop (McPartlin) as her lead contractor. The only problem — he’s the guy who broke her heart and she’s the one who got away. Sparks fly as they work closely to get the renovations done in time for the inn’s annual Christmas Eve Harborfest. Will they be able to fix the mistakes of their past to build a future together? (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Sam is an HGTV style holiday decorator. It isn’t as glamorous as it seems on TV; she is rushed around from photoshoot to home renovations filming. Her producer, Josh, wants Sam to add a more personal touch to connect with fans and compete with up-and-coming star Hailey.
An old family friend/Inn owner Jack calls Sam and asks her to come home to Bell Harbor to help him renovate his inn that has been damaged by a storm. She agrees to help out and save the HarborFest.
Back at home, Coop (a reclaimed woodshop owner) insists to his cafe-owning sister, Jenny, that he has moved on from Sam. The couple used to date, and Coop is the first person Sam runs into when she arrives. Coop is very clearly still in love with her. They will be working together to renovate the inn and save the Harborfest. Which is awkward since they were high school sweethearts. They used to make DIY videos and almost had a show together, but Sam had to go it alone because he didn’t want to do the show and broke up with her. (YIKES!)
The next morning, Sam takes a shower and walks in on a hunky shirtless Coop. He is staying at the inn too during the renovation. He wants the place to feel like a home and keep the historical integrity, and she wants to update to modern luxury decor. They find some broken dishes and speak in metaphors about their broken relationship.
The first thing they do is demo a wall, and Coop makes fun of Sam’s social media posts. She explains that it is to help raise publicity for Bell Harbor and the inn. Coop implies that Sam doesn’t really care about the integrity of the work and wants to just get it done. They argue, but then he gives her Rita’s journal, and it has a lot of the original designs for the inn and Harborfest. Sam decides to trust Coop and wants to be a team again without taking shortcuts and honoring Rita’s original designs as inspo.
Working together, montage happens, including lots of sexual tension and social media posts.
In the middle of a town snowball fight, Josh calls Sam to encourage her to keep posting with Coop because it is getting a great response. Sam tells him that they are just working together and no romance will happen. They are keeping the relationship strictly professional.
That doesn’t last for long. As they are working on a project in the shed, Sam finds an old fence post that has their initials carved into it. Coop admits that he has never stopped thinking about her. They make out.
Sam’s numbers are so good that she is asked back to do a Christmas Eve shoot and an international spin-off. Sam is speechless. Coop overhears the call and thinks that she was just using him to boost her public profile. Sam promises that she was just having fun, and it was not a calculated decision. They continued to argue about the show opportunity years ago. Coop admits that the network wasn’t into both of them and only wanted Sam. He lied to Sam to let her live out her dream. They realize that he will never leave Bell Harbor, and she can’t stay for her profession.
It is time for the big reveal, and Jack is touched by the attention to detail and nods to his late wife, Rita. Rita always wished for Coop and Sam to be together and dreamed of them getting married at the inn.
Sam is on her way home to get back to work, and she sees a social media love video that Coop makes. Sam rushes back, and he proposes to her the way he wanted to five years ago. Coop tells Sam that she is his home and wants to travel the world with her. She accepts his proposal and they kiss as everyone cheers.
