Brought together by community service, Eric and Joy find new purpose at Christmas. As they help a family rebuild their home, coincidences and a medical miracle lead them to believe in destiny.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
Joy receives her doctorate in nursing and is already booking job interviews. Her dad and boyfriend throw her a party. Joy shares that she is being considered for a job abroad.
Eric is not so lucky in his job search. He is passed up for the local pastor position at his church. He becomes a fellow instead. Joy does the same thing, and they both commit to helping others.
Eric and Joy fly to the retreat and accidentally get into the same rideshare. They decide to ride together to Advent in Oshkosh. When Eric hears that Joy has never had a Kringle, he takes her to a diner to get one ASAP. Joy tells him that she doesn’t like surprises.
The fellows work on repairing homes. They help a hunk named Tony Romero and his family. His wife, Emily, is very pregnant. Joy really lives up to her name, singing Christmas carols and writing wishes on the walls before painting over them. Joy suggests not just repairing the houses but making them feel at home. This inspires Eric to write something. (IDK what.) Joy prints out his writing and passes it out to everyone, and he is embarrassed.
Joy’s boyfriend calls to tell her he loves her, but she has been so busy flirting with Eric to even think about him. She admits her feelings to the inn owner, Katie, who believes in Godwinks and cheating on boyfriends?!?! She encourages Joy to keep her eyes open to the signs to know what to do.
The fellows bake cookies and light advent candles. Angelo, the group leader, speaks about truth and finding inner peace. They all throw Tony and his family a housewarming party. They are very touched by the thoughtfulness. Eric and Joy almost kiss, and she stops him to tell him that she has a boyfriend. (TERRIBLE TIMING! She should have told him sooner.)
Eric tells Joy that he has had a magical two weeks with the fellowship, but they need to get back to their real lives. (And boyfriends.) Eric gives Joy a compass so she can find her way back to him if she ever changes her mind about her lame boyfriend.
Joy goes home and tells her father about Godwinks. He tells her that her mom would want her to be happy, and she should be honest with herself. She realizes that she shouldn’t be with her boyfriend because they have grown up and grown apart. Joy feels bad because Danny is her past and Eric is her future. She breaks up with Danny, and he is heartbroken.
Eric learns that Joy is coming back to see him, and he rushes to pick her up from the airport. He gets into some car trouble and goes under the car. He is run over when the car parking brake comes loose. He is saved by a Godwink.
Joy and the other pray for his recovery. She places the compass necklace in his hands so he can find his way back to her. Joy stays by his side and watches his vitals.
When Eric starts crashing when Joy leaves for some air. She rushes back, and he is miraculously stabilized. I guess love does concur all. He wakes up, and Joy helps him with physical therapy. Eric gets a job as a writer for a monthly column with a local newspaper.
