Welcome to Paradise Ranch, where city slickers get to be cowboys and cowgirls. Merry (Hart), who owns the ranch, has been unlucky in love, but that’s about to change when a single father, Mark (Henry), and his two kids book the ranch for Christmas week. Adventure is on the menu, the holiday spirit is everywhere, and love is in the air. (2021)
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts on a ranch in Montana as promised. Melissa Joan Hart (or her stunt double) rides a horse on the scenic mountain top. (Think Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music minus the signing.)
Since her mother died, Melissa Joan Hart (AKA Merry) is a single cowgirl who runs the Montana ranch for tourists with her father, hunk Jasper, and Laura.
Single dad/Software engineer (and maybe British?) Mark and his two kids Timmy and bratty/wifi obsessed teen Becca, stay at the Ranch for their holidays. They also bring along their nanny, which would spell trouble in a typical Lifetime movie. Debbie, however, seems harmless. (and rightfully into Jasper.)
It isn’t Mark’s first time at the Ranch; he came as a little kid. Mark shares a photo with Melissa Joan Hart, and he says he didn’t mention it before because he was nervous that she wouldn’t remember him.
The ranch schedule is like you would think. Singing by the campfire at night, waking up at 6am for grub in the mess hall, Christmas Tree chopping, and lots of comical horseback riding.
Mark is thankful for the pause from the city bustle and watches the starts with Melissa Joan Hart in the moonlight. The next morning he makes everyone breakfast (Gingerbread French Toast!) and is really thriving. Mark isn’t the only one; Becca takes up photography, and Debbie takes up Jasper. (After he makes sure that she isn’t hooking up with her boss, making for an awkward conversation.)
A square dance happens, and the call and response song includes “Stand up straight and get in line. We’re all spruced and looking fine.” Becca is sure to get a group photo with her old-timey camera.
A storm rolls in, and Mark is injured on his horse. Mellisa Joan Hart pulls out a flask, and they settle into a barn for cover. Mark asks her, since she is so busy taking care of everyone, who cares for her? They talk about a potential relationship but aren’t sure how it would work with him in LA.
Everyone rides in the town Christmas parade, and we see the most hipster Santa I’ve ever seen.
Mark and his family are leaving after Christmas. But Debbie, Becca, and Timmy don’t want to leave. They ask Mark to stay and go to school remotely. Mard decides to stay, but he needs to talk to Melissa Joan Hart, who is also upset that they are leaving, even though he father gives her his blessing to move to LA to be with Mark.
Melissa Joan Hart looks out on the mountainside while wearing a pretty oversized white sweater. Mark tells her that he has been afraid to feel romantic love since he lost his wife. Melissa Joan Hart has awakened that feeling in him. He asks her to enjoy the here and now with him. Mark wants to take care of her and is willing to uproot his life and move to Montana. Which is a pretty good Christmas present. They kiss. Yehaw!
One year later, Jasper and Debbie are getting married at the Ranch, and Melissa Joan Hart, and Mark are engaged. They all ran to true love. The end!
Side Note
Minority Report: Mark, Timmy, Becca Laura, Jasper
Directed by TV Movie all-star Kellie Martin. Yay, for female directors at Lifetime.
I’m glad Hart productions is including is committed to including representation in their movies. They really stepped it up on that front this year.

I have been trying to find the song that was playing when Merry was fixing up the wagon and Mark was just looking at her?
