Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Marketing whiz Alma Beltran (Bauman) and Christmas tree whisperer Charlie Freemont (Jones) cross paths when Charlie finds the perfect tree for the Maine Governor’s Holiday Celebration — right in Alma’s back yard. While they initially spar, romantic sparks soon begin to fly between the two women as the enchanting tree and some Christmas fairy dust from the town’s pâtissière extraordinaire (Lake) bring out the best in them and spark each other to take leaps of faith and fight for love and Christmas magic. (2021)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Charlie and her friend, Rohan, fly a drone in the woods, looking for the perfect Christmas tree for a state Christmas. They pass their drone right over Alma’s chicken coop. When she sees Charlie, Alma confronts them about flying the drone and is tongue-tied by her beauty.

Alma and her family own a Christmas ornament and gift store. She is taking over the family business and looks pretty excited about it. Also, Ricki Lake lake is there, soooooo what is not to be excited about.

Charlie and Rohan talk to Alma’s parents about the Christmas tree on the property, and they are honored to have been selected for the state tree. Alma doesn’t want to sacrifice the tree because they have a tradition in the town of decorating it.

Alma shows Charlie the store, talking about chance meetings while fixing nutcrackers. Then she takes Charlie to her Chicken coup and tells her one chicken named Betty, which is the key to getting to know her. Charlie vows to figure out which Betty the chicken is named after; it is NOT Betty Crocker.

A crafting competition happens, which is pretty Lesbian; Alma and Charlie get assigned to the same team. After a lengthy British Bake-Off wannabe scene, the lesbians take home the trophy.

Charlie finds an old piano in Alma’s house and plays some music. She bonds with Alma’s dad, and they play “Ol Lang Syne” together.

Charlie plans a romantic dinner, where she attempts to cook one of Ricki Lake’s recipes, it doesn’t work out, so they make out and eat pastries instead. Then Charlie figures out all of Alma’s chickens are named after characters from classic Christmas movies.

Then they go up in a rig to decorate that Charlie wants to chop down. Charlie talks about how unique the tree is and shares the history of the tree. (Or is she talking about their blooming relationship.)

At a saint and sinners party, Charlie and Alma sit down with a Christmas tarot card reader. Then Alma’s dad sings “Ol Lang Syne” for the party. It wouldn’t have been possible without Charlie reintroducing him to his love of music. Alma tells Charlie that she doesn’t want her to leave. Charlie doesn’t want to leave either, but they don’t want to do a long-distance relationship.

Charlie’s boss comes to town and needs the state tree ASAP. She tells Charlie that she only needs the parents’ signatures, not Alma. Charlie still thinks she can find a replacement and heads into the woods with Rohan and the drone. They hear an owl in the middle of the day and find the perfect replacement tree.

Alma worries that Charlie is only romancing her for the tree, but Charlie quickly quells those fears. They still can’t see a future together and say a teary goodbye. “Ol Lang Syne” plays softly in the background. (This movie is obsessed with that song.)

The town lights up the Christmas tree and surprisingly doesn’t sign “Ol Lang Syne.” Charlie shows up and apologizes to Alma. She is moving to town for a job opportunity, IDK, something with trees. The women embrace and kiss as the gigantic Christmas tree is lit. It is beautiful.
