Synopsis (via Lifetime)

Kendra, born on the wrong side of the tracks and consumed with envy and resentment for the life her (secret) socialite half-sister Remy Bell-Winter enjoys, secures a job as a nanny to Remy’s daughter Ella. Danger ensues. Chelsea Rose Cook, April Hale star. (2022)

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie starts with a nanny getting murdered while taking out the trash. (We find out that she wasn’t murdered, but who cares.)

Cut to children’s author and reluctant socialite (because it is a sexist term) named Remy Bell-Winter. Remy lives a luxurious life but tries to stay humble. Her husband, Jack works for her father’s company and is extremely busy with work.

Unphased by her nanny going missing, Remy is quick to hire a new one. She interviews Kendra and talks about Matilda, the previous nanny, being hard to replace. Kendra and Remy bond over losing their mothers and hires Kendra on the spot!

Kendra gathers her things and moves into the house. Kendra hits it off with little Ella and Remy’s husband, Jack. He catches Kendra sneaking a piece of cake in the middle of the night. Jack tells Kendra that he isn’t from a rich family and that sometimes he feels like he is living in a museum.

At the playground the next day, Kendra gets a call to pick up a dress for Remy for a fancy party. She gets so angry that she almost pushes Ella over the swing, going way too high. Then Kendra sees a patch of poison ivy and rubs it all over the inside of the dress.

On the red carpet, Remy itches herself wildly and creates quite a scene. Remy is admitted into the hospital overnight?!?! David, a co-worker, stops by to check on Remy and talk about the fundraiser. They plan to throw a BBQ at Remy’s house to make up to the donors for a ruined event. Kendra seizes the opportunity to place doubts in Jack’s mind about his relationship with his wife. He gets upset with Remy for not even consulting him about the party.

Ella tries to tell her mother the truth about what happened, but Kendra is quick to explain away Remy’s concerns and win Ella over by telling her how much she loves her. (More than her mother.)

The BBQ starts off well until Kendra works Jack up into creating a scene in front of everyone. Jack is so jealous he can’t even sleep in the same room. Remy asks him to go to a counselor to work on their relationship. After her business trip with David.

With Remy away for business, Jack drinks heavily and is fewer inhibitions when Kendra comes down wearing sexy lingerie, make-up, and perfume. She easily seduces him by crying over her mother and playing the victim.

The next morning, Jack clearly regrets his behavior and avoids Kendra.

Throughout the movie, Kendra tells Ella about her childhood while what really happens plays over her voiceover. Kendra’s mother got addicted to drugs after Kendra’s father (who is also Remy’s father.) left her. Kendra ended up in foster care.

This makes Remy’s father, Marcus Bell, showing up for dinner extremely awkward. The dinner conversation takes a turn when Marcus asks Kendra about her mother. Kendra rushes to the bathroom and crushes up some prescription pills, which she puts into the wine.

Kendra almost pushes Marcus down a set of stairs, but she in interrupted by Ella looking for a bedtime story. (The first fake me out stair falling on Lifetime!? Maybe.) Kendra is still up for wreaking havoc and posts a scandalous post about David’s penis on social media and gets Remy’s children’s book release canceled.

Jack tries to fire Kendra, but she doesn’t have it. She tells him that he loves her and says they will be together forever when Kendra starts letting her crazy show. Jack promises to tell Remy. Kendra pushes him down the stairs and then bashes her head against the railing.

When Kendra talks to the police, she says that Jack tried to sexually assault her, and they had an altercation on the stairs. Remy can’t believe it. She tells Kendra that she knows she is lying.

Kendra sneaks out of the hospital and into Remy’s home. She steals a bunch of jewelry and then wakes Marcus up with a knife to the neck. He remembers her instantly and apologizes. Apology not accepted because Kendra stabs him in the chest and kidnaps Ella.

Remy finds her father’s body and rushes to save her daughter by tracking the car via GPS.

Kendra tells Ella that her mother doesn’t want her and says she will be her new mommy. Then she ties Ella up in the back seat while Kendra steals a car.

Ella manages to escape from the new car and runs into the woods. Remy is close behind and runs into the woods after them.

Kendra holds Ella at knifepoint and explains her reasons for getting revenge on Remy. Kendra also tells Remy that they are sisters.

Remy and Kendra fight over the knife and throw some punches. Remy reaches for a just-out-of-reach rock and takes Kendra out after she says Jack was a good lay. (Which I’d believe.)

Remy gets a book deal to tell the story. She is grateful to have her daughter with her because that is what is important.

Side Note

Minority Report: The cast is mostly POC actors.
