Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Erica is a rancher who has spent her whole life working the family farm with her mother and sister. When Aaron arrives and disrupts her plans, she starts to question what it is she actually wants.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

Erica Holden gives a tour of Maple Valley Farm in Montana. Erica’s Sister and brother-in-law Trevor help run the farm. She tells the guests about all the Christmas activities they have, and I should write them down because it will probably serve as a checklist.

Ina, the matriarch, calls a family meeting and tells her daughters that she is ready to retire and plans to go to Italy. The sisters are not so thrilled about being business partners. Erica is more traditional, and Heidi is ready to shake things up. (Like buying the neighboring lot next store.)

Hallmark Hunk, Andrew Walker, is back; this time, he is playing Aaron Davenport. He also works for the family business… a real estate investment company. Andrew and his Father have some tension. Steve, the father, thinks Aaron has no work ethic. Steve assigns Aaron to check out the lot for sale in Maple Valley.

Aaron joins the family for some eggnog and is intentionally vague about his reasons for being in town. Erica seizes the moment and kisses him. After the makeout session, Aaron comes clean about his real intentions; he wants to develop the land next door. Erica tells him that she always picks the wrong men and walks away from Aaron, hoping to never see him again.

When Aaron arrives on the for sale property, he finds a lost horse and rides him back to Maple Valley Farm. Erica is surprised when a hottie rides in on a horse. She thanks him for returning her horse and walks him back to his car. Aaron is very interested in the Maple farm and says that it seems familiar and realizes that he had visited the farm when he was a boy.

Heidi can’t believe her sister acted so impulsively. Then she tells Erica that she isn’t sure they should buy the land. The sisters argue over the direction to take the Maple Farm. Heidi wants to franchise, and Erica wants to keep things the same.

At a Christmas tree lighting, Erica runs into Aaron, and he directly asks her what is up with her reaction after the kiss. Erica explains everything, and Aaron tells her that he won’t buy the property if the land matters that much to her. When Aaron tells Steve his father is not on board and wants to buy. He ups the bidding price.

Erica invites him to help her prep for the Maple Festival. They make candy together. Aaron and Erica talk about their less-than-stellar fathers and bond over feeling inadequate. They almost make out but are interrupted by Steve; he shows up to take a look at the land, and Erica feels betrayed again.

The shocks keep coming, and Ina tells everyone she has a secret Italian boyfriend.

Erica puts a bid behind her sister’s back, which doesn’t go over well. Erica doesn’t really care what her sister thinks and spends all her time with Aaron. Aaron shares about his mother passing away when he was ten years old and how it affected the relationship. Erica talks about past broken hearts and is surprised that Aaron hasn’t had any serious relationships.

Instead of going to the bidding, Erica and Aaron host a traditional sleigh ride through the maple woods. Erica encourages Aaron to strike out on his own at a fancy dinner. Then they slow dance to “Silent Night” performed (well!) by Heidi and Trevor.

Back at the hotel, Steve confronts his son about missing the meeting. Aaron stands up for himself and tells his father off. Then Aaron goes to Erica and tells him that he wants to help her outbid his father.

Erica has a freakout when the Christmas tree is decorated differently. It causes a huge family argument. Heidi offers to sell her portion of the business. Erica begs for another chance, and they are partners again.

Aaron gets a package for his dad, apologizing for being a lousy father. Erica also calls to apologize to him for something. Erica invites Aaron over for Christmas dinner, and he doesn’t show up. Steve does tho, and he tells them that he has withdrawn the offer. Aaron shows up, and it is the first Christmas he has spent with his father in a long time. Erica and Aaron hold hands the whole meal. (That seems like a big commitment, but I would do it for Andrew Walker.)

Erica gives Aaron his Christmas present, a cowboy hat. He finally earned it. Aaron looks excellent in a cowboy hat! They kiss. The end!

Side Notes

This movie was pretty boring, but the leads were great!

Very thankful it wasn’t all about maple but it was all about THE LAND!
