Synopsis (via Hallmark)

Lisette is a popular R&B singer who’s getting ready to travel home to New Orleans for Christmas. When the media mistake a photo of her with her music producer ex as an engagement announcement, her family insists that he join her on the trip.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

R&B star, Lisette, performs her hit Christmas single for a NOT sold-out crowd while her hunk label rep, Zac, and a music journalist named Gia Cole watch from backstage. The audience dances insanely off rhythm but is into it. The sales from Lisette’s last album are not great, and the Christmas tour is underperforming. Lisette gets taken off a headliner spot and replaced by Oshun. (Who is dating a movie star, Indian Bass.) Lisette feels like she isn’t being given the respect she deserves; she has won two Grammys!

Matthew, Lisette’s former producer, has moved on to work with other artists. They had a bad falling out, but the pairing produced Lisette’s best-selling album. Matthew has a bad back, random detail.

The old collaborators run into one another at a Christmas festival. Lisette drops a ring, and Matthew bends down to pick it up and gets stuck kneeling with a ring in the typical proposal pose. Lisette tells him that she never wants to see him on one knee. She is happy that they broke up over a year ago and tells him to have a lovely Christmas without her.

Lisette starts trending when the photo goes viral, and Gia Cole gets the scoop on the story. She tells Lisette about her engagement with Matthew on the red carpet, and Zac pulls up the story on her phone. They even have a couple name #LizMatt. (Not very creative.) Lissette does damage control and tries to talk to her family, who is already doing interviews with Gia.

Papparrrazi chase Matthew into his apartment building, and he sees the photo as well.

Matthew and Lisette decide that they have to go along with the rouse to keep the good publicity and the boost in record sales. Lisette brings Matthew to spend Christmas with her family, who are thrilled that Lisette is engaged. Lisette’s mom makes Matthew try her famously boozy fruitcake, and Matthew pretends to like it. Lisette and Matthew laugh about tricking everyone because he is DRUNK!

Not everyone is fooled; Gia Cole is also from the town and invites herself over to Lisette’s house for the famous fruit cake. Gia is suspicious because Lisette is staying at a hotel and has booked two rooms. Lisette’s dad is not having them stay in a hotel and insists that they stay in the house.

Lisette sings “Joy to the World” randomly for a crowd outside for free! (This could be why her tour isn’t selling if she is giving away live performances for free.)

Lisette’s mother has been strategically inviting Gia to family events to turn around her harsh criticisms of her daughter. The plan works because Lisette’s family is very welcoming and fun.

Zac, who is still hot, calls Lisette because he is about to get the tour back on track, but news that she switched labels to join Matthew’s label leaks. Lisette blames Matthew for using her to better his business. She regrets pretending to be in a relationship, and it really hurts his feelings. Matthew promises to fix it, and the two end their fake relationship.

Gia looks into the story and learns that Matthew’s business partner leaked the story to gain attention. She shares with Lisette what she has found out and asks her what she wants to do. Lisette doesn’t know what to do because Matthew might be the love of her life.

Lisette finds Matthew downtown, and he tells her that he loves her. She invites him to come back to her and her family for real this time. He says, “Yes, Yes, Yes!” and they kiss while onlookers cheer them on politely.

It is time for the Christmas concerts at All Saint’s show. Lisette joins her family on stage for the performance. Her dad is retiring and closing his club, so it has extra meaning for everyone in attendance.

The children take over the club, and Lisette will be the resident singer at the All Saints club. She does plan on collaborating with Matthew on music and babymaking! (Can we please get an All Saint’s Baby movie?) Lisette and Matthew become really engaged at the end of the movie and do a kiss dip for the ages! Everyone cheers and then they realize it is knowing and all run outside on the sunniest day to look at the “snow.” (I love blatantly fake snow!)

Side Note

Minority Report: The cast features an all-Black cast.

I really liked Ledisi in this movie and have enjoyed her in other TV movies. It blows my mind that she is 50. She looks and sounds amazing.

Darien Martin is so fine and not a bad actor! He needs to be promoted to leading man status next holiday season.
