Synopsis (via Lifetime)
Under the public eye, a troubled detective races to solve a series of high-profile murders that are “predicted” when published online.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts on city streets, with a woman running through busy, crowded streets to hide at a secluded construction site, where a masked stalker nabs her.
A detective named Quinn goes on a date in the middle of the day and tries to brush the guy off, blaming a sitter… but it’s the middle of the day. Then she gets distracted by a woman being thrown into a van, screaming for help. Quinn rushes in and is disappointed to learn it is a film crew.
Liam, Quinn’s tween son, sees news footage of his mom ruining a take and is embarrassed. Quinn is a widow, and her husband was on the force. He was killed on the job and celebrated as a hero, despite being an abusive homophobe behind closed doors. He wants to go to robotics camp and grow up ASAP. Quinn tells her son she doesn’t have time for his shenanigans because she is going back to work and has a new partner, Carter.
A high-profile actress, Mia Bailey, ends up dead, and Quickfire Quinn is on the case. That is her nickname; I’m not sure why! Mia was the woman running around at the beginning of the movie and didn’t end up dead on the construction site. Still, a busker (do we say this word now? I thought it was just an Australian thing because of Tones and I) does. Does it matter?
Liam shows his mom a website called Gossip to Die For that has blind items about celebrities. He thinks Mia wouldn’t unalive herself. There is also a book series by Anna Moore. Liam is a weird kid to be so into a website and not social media. Quinn still follows his lead recommendations.
Anna comes in for questioning and says that Mia was planning for her future and never would unalive herself! They also talk about 141 Crew, a collective of artists who started out in NYC that Mia and Anna were part of.
Liam comes in clutch again, reviews the footage from Anna and Mia’s night out, and notices a watch found at the construction site. Quinn decides to follow the boring lead of watch sales and calls local stores to find out which store sold Mia the watch.
Quinn talks to more folks from the 141 crew, and a black car tails her. The 141 crew isn’t much help, and Detective Quinn is abducted in a parking garage. The masked kidnapper plays a video to warn Quinn to drop the case. Carter is mysteriously at lunch during the kidnapping.
Carter suggests the kidnapping was just a prank, since it was a van and that whole filming incident went viral. Quinn tells him what is what, and she REALLY doesn’t like him. Think Moonlighting with no chemistry. Carter oversteps and tells Quinn how to raise her son, since he has no father. It doesn’t go over well!
The detectives get a call about a disturbance at one of the 141 crews’ condos, and another member is dead. The crime scene suggests he may have known his attacker. A post on the gossip website also predicted the crime. (The whole gossip blog thing could have been handled in a more fun way. It really feels like an afterthought.)
The website predicts more deaths, and Quinn keeps checking on the 141 crew members, with help from Anna Moore, who is definitely behind everything and working with Carter. ALLEGEDLY!
Anna Moore tells a confusing story about 141 and Shilo faking her own death to kill her father in a house fire. Who is Shilo? I’m not sure.
Carter tells the babysitter that Quinn asked him to take over watching Liam, and that the babysitter is out of there so quickly. Then the killer comes into the house, shoots Carter, and kidnaps Liam. So maybe my theory was wrong!
Shilo and Quinn come face-to-face after a ransom is sent. Quinn saves her son and fights with Shilo while the whole police squad waits outside. Somehow, Anna More gets inside with a gun and shoots Shilo to save Quinn. It is idiotic.
One month later, Quinn and her son make amends, and she sees him as a teenager now and not a little kid. Anna Moore is now famous and working on a movie script based on her experience.
Anna Moore meets with Quinn and introduces her to her new boyfriend, Roman. Quinn tells Anna Moore that she was the Blind Items Killer. Mia got another project and was going to leave the production, so Anna Moore killed everyone and blamed it on Shilo. Quinn goes on in more detail, but it is so boring.
Quinn and Anna Moore fight it out, and a wine bottle comes to save the day. Quinn struck a deal with Roman, and he turns on Anna Moore while wearing a wire. A bunch of police waiting outside arrest Anna. Carter is one of them and alive!
