Synopsis (via Lifetime)
When a family’s home is caught in a deadly wildfire, a husband’s choice to stay behind to recover their youngest daughter turns into a fight for redemption, while his wife shepherds their other children to safety.
Recap/Wine Thoughts
The movie starts in a forest in Chelsea, California. Susan drops off supplies at the local food drive when her husband, Bill, calls and says he is stuck at work and can’t help. He is the first of many who call and cancel last minute.
Susan picks up her kids, Andrew, Grace, and Annie, from school, then goes home and roasts a chicken dinner. Bill comes home late with flowers, like that will make up for being a workaholic.
While she makes the rounds for the food drop-off, an alert comes in about a forest fire. Instead of evacuating, Susan calls Bill to see if it is real. Bill doesn’t see anything, but tells the kids to pack for a few days. Annie is still over at a sleepover. The family’s emergency prep is depleted, with supplies running low and food expired. (Although I don’t think canned beans are make-or-break here.) Then the parents decide to split up!?!? This is really poor planning.
Annie leaves the sleepover, and Bill has to run into the woods to look for her. He comes up short and finds her scrunchie instead. He finds her waiting at their family meet-up spot, which is more planning gone awry. Someone steals his truck, so Bill has to steal someone else’s truck. I’m sensing a pattern here.
Meanwhile, Susan is stuck in traffic quoting scripture while trying to outrun the fire. Lord help us all. Susan is laying on the prayer THICK. They go to the shelter and wait for Bill and Annie. Andrew is a total Jerk and more worried about the house than his family.
Bill can’t evacuate because of a car accident and has to off-road it to a brush where no fire can burn anything around them. He pumps the AC and waits it out in the backseat with his daughter. He sings “Hush Little Baby” as smoke envelopes the car. There is no cell service, so he can’t call and let anyone know where he is, but he CAN pray.
For some reason, the big guy upstairs is not giving Susan a sign, and she worries about her husband and daughter while keeping busy running the shelter and helping others. Susan is selfless. Susan is sensible. Susan is saved.
The police report found Bill’s truck with two bodies burned inside, but if you remember that the truck was stolen, then Bill and Annie are probably fine. Andrew tells his mom she is foolish and lame for waiting for a miracle that won’t come.
Bill and Annie leave their stolen truck and walk through the burnt forest, wearing face coverings. (Which doesn’t last long because this is a movie.) This girl doesn’t even walk herself; she piggybacks the whole way!
Susan tries to convince the firefighters to let her go search with them, and they’re like, Lady… you’re crazy. Then they change their minds and decide to train Susan and her lesbian friend to go out with search and rescue. It is a SEVEN-HOUR training.
The ragtag search-and-rescue team goes out and saves some people, but Susan only cares about her family. Susan’s Lesbian friend loses her husband to the fire, and Susan helps her with a prayer circle. Then she goes back to yelling at everyone to rescue her family, even if it’s too unsafe to search.
Bill and Annie reach a lake and drink the water. His ankle is pretty badly sprained, and it doesn’t look good for them. He writes an apology text and looks at pictures with 12% battery.
Susan goes back out and doesn’t want to follow instructions, so she does her own thing and goes to the lake. That is not how that works, honey! If she wasn’t right, she would be even more annoying.
After some CGI smoke, Annie shows up screaming for help. Bill is in the lake, and Susan embraces him while a crackling forest fire surrounds them.
The family is reunited, and Andrew has a complete turnaround, suddenly appreciating his deadbeat father and zealot mother.

Andrew sucks!!!!
Wow, I hated this. I need a disclaimer when Lifetime goes hard on the faith-based garbage. The Sherri Shepard movie was one thing because a literal angel saved her, and I’m here for that. Whatever this was did not hit the same.
