Synopsis (via FreeVee)

Samantha goes home to help her love struck sister, Emily, during the holidays. She discovers that Emily and Tony can not be together unless Samantha attracts and dates the unpleasant Parker Williams, an owner of a competing winery.

Recap/Wine Thoughts

The movie begins with some kid sisters, Sam and Emily, playing hide and seek in a wine cellar. Emily gets scared, and Sam gives her sister their mother’s locket to keep her safe.

Flash to twenty years later, Emily rushes out for a date and avoids her dad’s questions. The relationship is complicated because she is dating Tony, who works for a rival wine company. On their date, they drink wine and discuss diversity, leading to inspiration.

Meanwhile, Parker Williams works on a wine label with the co-owner Tony. (Mostly, he throws papers at Tony while he talks.) Parker ends up at the same bar where Tony and Emily are having their date, and he rushes to Tony with an idea. As he gives his pitch, Emily hides under the table; she pops out when Peter trash-talks her father’s wine. Parker bans his stepbrother from talking to Emily. (It’s in the contract! Haha!)

Emily comes up with an idea and calls in her sister Sam. (Who is a problem-solving flight attendant.) Emily welcomes her sister back to town with a big hug and a BIG scheme. She wants Sam to date Parker, and then he won’t be so concerned about Tony and Emily dating. Sam agrees, but only if they agree to name their firstborn after her. (WHO IS SHE RUMPELSTILTSKIN!)

The plan goes into motion, and Sam gets Parker talking with her by focusing on his favorite subject, wine! He gives her a tour of the winery and his equipment. (for the wine!) Parker, point blank, asks Sam if she is a spy, and she says no but is totally making mental notes. Sam is almost caught by her dad, who stops by to drop off grapes. Parker is cocky and rude to him, which is not a turn-on. He tells Sam that he used to look up to George, but times have changed, and wine drinkers have moved on. (He refuses to tamper with his Christmas blend wine because it is Sam’s mother’s recipe.)

Tony gives Sam a packet on Parker, and she is surprised to learn that his stepbrother doesn’t even like dogs! How is he so good-looking and such a jerk? They go out on a date and toast to siblings. Then Sam sees Emily and Tony in the same restaurant. Sam creates a distraction by making him dance, and her sister and his stepbrother sneak out just in time. Peter is none the wiser and invites Sam on another date with him.

Parker starts showing up to work in a good mood for once! He is totally in love,

The sisters have a challenging conversation with their dad. Sam tells her father that he is running the company into the ground. He doesn’t take it well.

Parker takes Sam to the town Christmas tree lighting, and Parker is happy that Sam enjoys it. He asks her about her life and wants to get to know her better. Sam is vague and shares as much as she can without specifics.

At the Christmas wine-tasting contest, Sam looks beautiful and shows up fashionably late. Since her dad is there, Emily quickly fills her dad in on the plan. Sam and Parker try wines, and he is so impressed with her pallet that he asks her to work with him and offers her a job. Sam doesn’t know what to say and worries that she might actually like Parker.

Parker finds out that Sam and Emily are sisters. He feels betrayed and tells Tony that he will lose his shares in the company when he tries to explain. Sam apologizes, but Parker isn’t hearing anyone. Emily goes home upset, and Sam argues with her dad. George blames Sam for everything, and she tells him that he is stuck in the past and can’t see that his daughters are struggling to move on because he clings so hard to the past.

Emily talks with her dad and tells her Sam has been making wine secretly all these years. She shows him the barrels of Sam’s wine, and he likes them. Emily tells her dad that the best way they can honor her mom is to make the best wine they can. George rushes to the airport to tell Sam he understands. They rush to stop Sam from leaving.

Sam, Emily, and George take Sam’s barrels and bottle up the wine for the holiday contest.

Wine drinkers sample the offerings and submit secret ballots. Parker and Sam talk, and he sticks to his guns. Sam admits that she was starting to have feelings for him, and his passion for wine inspired her. Before she leaves, she tells Parker that her wine is smoother than his. Parker tastes it and surprisingly agrees.

While the judges deliberate, Sam offers to forfeit if he will let Emily and Tony be together, no matter what the contract says. Parker doesn’t take the deal, and Sam wins the contest with the highest score ever! Emily gives Sam back her mother’s locket and tells her to go after Parker.

Sam finds Parker at a Christmas gazebo. He congratulates Sam on her wine, and he asks her to stay in town. Sam takes Parker up on his job offer, and they kiss under the mistletoe.

Side Note/Stray Thoughts

We’ve been waiting for Ignacyo Matynia to do one of these holiday films. He nailed it like we knew he would.
